MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Hello Cushing Families!

We have just wrapped up our winter math assessments and will be starting our reading and writing assessments next week. These are screening assessments, which, as a reminder, are conducted in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to measure student learning and progress throughout the school year.

Next week, your child will take the aimswebPlus early literacy and/or reading assessments to give us more insight about their reading readiness skills. These assessments are a part of the Act 20 Wisconsin Literacy Law that recently passed which focuses on improving literacy by requiring early literacy screening among other components.

As in the fall, the results from these assessments will be shared with you, in early February. If your child is at risk of not meeting grade-level expectations, we will share a plan with you around how we will support your child.

We often get questions from parents about how to best help their children during this time. Here are two important ways:

  • Please encourage your child to take the test seriously and do the best they can. While the results are not factored into grades, they are used with additional classroom information to determine how to best meet each student’s educational needs. As a whole school, we will also encourage our students to persist, persevere, and strive for accuracy during their testing.

  • Keep in mind a good night’s rest and breakfast are important ways to prepare our learners to do their best. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children from the ages of 6-12 should be getting 9-12 hours of sleep per night.

If you have any questions or would like to chat more, feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Mrs. Rach

Front Office Update
We want to inform you about a few minor adjustments to Cushing’s front office area. These updates are designed to enhance our current safety measures and maximize our current building layout while continuing to provide excellent service to our families and Cushing guests.

The changes include:

  • The first set of vestibule doors will now be locked, and visitors will need to buzz in for access to the next set of doors.

  • A phone/intercom will be installed in the first vestibule to allow front office staff to communicate with visitors before granting entry.

  • Guests will need to be buzzed in through both sets of doors and will speak with office staff via phone or intercom before entering the office.

Our aim is to maintain a welcoming school environment while ensuring the safety and security of everyone. These changes will improve visibility and better support the needs of our students, families, guests, and staff.
