MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Greetings Cushing families!

We are interested in gauging interest in parent participation in a virtual book club here at Cushing. The book we are considering is "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk" by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. This bestselling text offers valuable insights and methods for effective communication between parents and children. It provides parents/adults with useful strategies to handle negative emotions, express feelings without hurtfulness, promote cooperation, set boundaries, and resolve conflicts peacefully.

If you are interested in participating in the virtual book club, please complete this Google form. Based on the responses, we will plan meeting dates and times. Please note that we require a minimum of 10 parents to run the book club successfully.

Mrs. Rach and Ms. Wiseman (school counselor)

Cold Weather & Recess
We’ve had a lot of families ask if they should send snow gear backs to school during this stretch of COLD weather.  The quick answer to that is YES.  Here are the reasons:

  1. When the Feels Like temperature is 0 and above, we will be going outside for recess.  When the Feels Like is below 0, outdoor recess will be reduced or we will shift to indoor recess. We’ve had a lot of indoor recess this week.  It may not feel like 0 at lunch-recess, but it might for 2nd recess.  We all know how important fresh air is, especially when you’ve been stuck inside…looking at all the snow you wish you could play in...

  2. Buses can and do breakdown.  Not that breakdowns happen often, but with these temps - you just never know.

  3. We don’t plan Fire/Evacuation Drills on freezing days. However, if we need to leave the building for an extended period of time, having snow gear will help.

  4. It’s good to stick with the habit of bringing your snow gear to school every day. We all know how easy it is to get out of a habit when we miss a day or two.  Just think about those New Year’s Resolutions...

  5. Yes, the snow gear bags can be heavy.  View them as a little workout.  Keep thinking about those New Year’s Resolutions. :)

Listening Session: Class Size - Tuesday, January 23 @ 6:30
On Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:30 in the KMHS library, district leadership will be hosting a listening session regarding class sizes. The purpose of this session is to build parent, community and staff understanding about the current realities of our class sizes throughout the district. Here are some of the topics that will be addressed:

  • a comparison to neighboring districts

  • budget implications including enrollment projection

  • what it would take to lower class sizes

  • build district understanding of parent, community and staff priorities as they relate to class sizes

Please plan to attend if you would like to gain information or share your thoughts about this topic and its impact at Kettle Moraine.

5th Grade Musical
As we prepare for the upcoming Pirates the Musical, we wanted to reach out and share that we have created an Amazon wish list to make it easier for those who are interested in supporting the concert. The wish list includes various supplies and props that our 5th-grade students will need for their performance. If you or anyone you know would like to contribute, please feel free to check out the wish list. Your generosity would greatly enhance the experience for our students.

Thank you for your continued support, and please reach out if you have any questions.

Kids Heart Challenge
Kids Heart Challenge is coming the week of February 5th-9th at Cushing.  Mr. Cuda will be teaching students jump rope skills to get ready for the BIG event.
