Hi Cushing Families!
At Cushing, we’ve been working to connect familiar habits of mind—like managing impulsivity, persistence, and thinking flexibly—with executive functioning skills or life skills. As part of our continued focus on building these life skills, we’d like to share an update on our progress and next steps in our school-wide effort. Since the start of the year, our focus has been on planning and organization—helping students prioritize tasks, establish routines, and set themselves up for success.
Now, we’re shifting our focus to task initiation, which we’ll connect to our Habit of Mind, persistence. With our continued work around task initiation, planning, and organization, grade level teams have worked to build checklists with the goal of helping students organize and manage their day. Check in with your students sometime this week to learn more about their grade level checklist. You could even consider asking them some of these questions:
How might using a checklist help you stay more organized?
How might a checklist help you prioritize tasks more effectively?
How might a checklist help you balance your time between different activities?
The checklists are designed as a practical tool to help students develop routines, stay organized, and become more independent in managing their at home responsibilities. By using checklists, we hope to empower our students to take ownership of their learning and develop crucial life skills that will benefit them both in and out of the classroom.
On behalf of our staff, thank you for your support!
Mrs. Rach
