MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Happy October, families!

We’re excited for a busy month ahead. Next week, our annual school-wide Decathlon at St. John’s takes place—thank you to our PTO, volunteers, and donors for helping make it possible! Great News, we’ve surpassed our goal! We are still looking for a few more volunteers, so if you’re able to help on Wednesday, click HERE.  For more Decathlon details, check out this PTO Link.

We’re also wrapping up fall assessments, and results will be sent home in Star Folders in the near future. This year, AIMSweb updated its national norms, which means percentile scores may look different, even if your child’s performance has stayed the same or improved. This reflects new comparison data, not a change in your child’s abilities. Teachers are carefully reviewing results alongside classroom performance to ensure instruction and support match each student’s needs. Our commitment remains the same, helping every student grow and succeed.

If you’re looking for some Friday night fun, join us for Bash on the Grass at KMHS before the KM Lasers take on the Muskego Warriors in tonight’s football game!

Have a great weekend Cushing families!
Mrs. Rach

Wear Green on October 22 for Phelen-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day

Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day

On Tuesday, October 22nd, we will celebrate Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day at Cushing by wearing green. Phelan-McDermid Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that involves chromosome 22, and can make learning, talking, and growing look a little different for some people. It’s extra special for us to recognize this day because someone in our own Cushing community has Phelan-McDermid Syndrome.

When we wear green, we show kindness, care, and support for our classmates, friends, and families—both here at Cushing and all around the world.

So don’t forget: wear green on October 22nd to show your support!

WE DID IT…HERE COMES THE PIES!!

We surpassed our goal of  $22,500  and now it’s time for
PIES IN MRS. RACH'S FACE!

This fundraising allows the PTO to make our playground payments AND focus on "givebacks" - community events, teacher appreciation, field trips, winter event, movie nights, classroom needs, physical education day and beyond - without asking for additional fundraising efforts. Our donation page will remain open until 11/1.

Click HERE to sign up to volunteer to help at the event on 10/8.

Please note that we will no longer have shirts for volunteers, please dress accordingly.

BOOK FAIR

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to build your child’s home library with new books they’ll dive into again and again.

The easiest way to let your child shop the Fair independently is by creating an eWallet. It’s easy to set up and easy for others to add funds.

Create an eWallet, and you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to Share the Fair - the giving program that supports students at our school who need help buying books. Consider participating so that no child leaves the Fair empty-handed!

Here’s everything else you need to know about the Book Fair:

October 28th - 9am to 4pm
October 29th - 9am to 4pm
October 30th - 11am to 7pm (open during conferences)

Location: The Cushing Activity Center

For full details, and to create an eWallet, visit our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/cushingelementaryschool2

More than ever, we need to get students reading. Studies prove that children with more books at home have higher-level reading skills, and attain more years of education overall.

Lastly, this is a great opportunity to be a Book Fair volunteer ! When you give your time, it helps make our Fair an unforgettable reading experience where every purchase benefits our school directly.

Happy reading!
The Book Fair Committee, Cushing Elementary

P.S. Don’t miss out! A new Scholastic sweepstakes offers a chance to get more books for your child’s home library–plus an unbelievable vacation!

VOLUNTEERS

🌟 Calling All Parents & Guardians! 🌟

Our PTO is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lead some important committees that make a big difference in our school community.

No experience needed, just a willingness to jump in and help! Leading a committee is a fun, rewarding way to connect with other families, support our staff, and directly impact our children’s school experience.

Our existing committee leads have created great planning documents and have teams in place which will make for an easy transition to a new committee lead.  Better yet - join with a friend and co-lead a committee!

Below are a few important events that need support:

  • Winter Event

  • Decathlon

  • Book Fair
