MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Hello Cushing Families,

We wanted to update you about the success of our recent distinct-wide "Friendsgiving" drive to benefit students in North Carolina impacted by recent hurricanes. Thanks to the generosity and support of our school community, Cushing was able to assemble and deliver over seventy thoughtfully handpicked boxes filled with much needed items for those in need. A special thank you goes out to our parent volunteers who dedicated their time to help wrap the boxes for delivery.

This event highlighted the importance of community and provided a meaningful opportunity for our students to put learning into action. As part of our focus on executive functioning skills, this project allowed students to practice key areas such as planning and organization. This experience was a way to apply these life skills in a real-world context while making a positive impact.

Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Rach

Lost & Found
We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found.  If your student is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s our Lost & Found.  The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.

**Anything left by the time we head out on Winter Break will be donated.

Cooler Weather and Jackets
As the weather starts to cool down, we’ve been reminding students to come to school prepared with the appropriate gear for the weather outside. When temperatures reach 50°F or below, we also remind students to wear a warm jacket or coat when going outside for recess. It’s also a good idea to have a hat and gloves/mittens when it gets chilly out. Thanks for adding this to your morning or evening routine when you’re getting ready for the day ahead.

Health Update
Earlier this week, we shared information about the increase in pneumonia cases and provided an update on our monitoring of head lice. As part of our efforts to keep lice out of our school, we are reminding students to avoid head-to-head contact and to refrain from sharing items such as hats, brushes, or hair ties.

Our building has undergone multiple rounds of deep cleaning, and we can report that the number of lice cases reported to us has significantly declined since Monday. Due to confidentiality reasons, we are unable to share details of individual cases.

You can help support our efforts at home by:

  • Regularly checking your child’s hair for lice.

  • Encouraging long hair to be tied up or braided.

  • Reminding your child not to share personal items.

Thank you for your partnership.

SEASON'S GREETINGS CARD MAKING

Season's Greetings Workshop

The holidays are here so let’s spread some Cushing Stars holiday cheer.

Between December 17th and 19th, we’re converting the Design Lab into our Season’s Greetings workshop.  During the lunch recess, students will have the opportunity to make greeting cards for our community and their loved ones.

Do you love the holidays and throwing on a festive holiday sweater?  Click here to sign up as an elf helper for the Season’s Greetings workshop.

Can’t help out during these times, here is a link to an Amazon wish list for card making supplies.

STAFF GIVING PROGRAM

Staff Giving

STAFF GIVING PROGRAM
The PTO coordinates an optional Holiday Gift Card Program to say "Thank You & Happy Holidays" to all of our Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. The program is meant to help simplify your gift giving should you choose to participate. This is not a fundraiser.

Here’s how the program works: You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift.

THIS IS A 2 STEP PROCESS - GIVE BUTTER AMOUNT SHOULD MATCH TOTAL ENTERED ON THE GOOGLE FORM!

STEP 1:  Fill out the Staff Giving Holiday 2024 Please make sure to complete your child's/children first and last name (EXAMPLE:  JANE SMITH FAMILY) then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.).

Then total up your order.

STEP 2: Copy this GIVE BUTTER LINK (https://givebutter.com/Cushingholidaygift2024) to pay your total. Click "Donate" and select/enter the amount that matches your google form. These orders will be compiled, and gift cards will be distributed to each individual.

Any amount is appreciated!

Program runs through Wednesday December the 4th

BAKKUM'S BOOK RECOMMENDATION FOR NOVEMBER

Smart but Scattered
by Peg Dawson and Richard Guare

A fantastic resource! It offers practical strategies for helping children strengthen their executive skills, which are crucial for success in school and life. The insights for parents are especially valuable, as they can apply these techniques to support their children's development. Highly recommended for parents who have children ages 4-13.
