MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Thank you to our Cushing families for making our recent parent/teacher conferences a success! We are thankful for the strong partnerships we share with you. Communication and parent engagement are topics both our Family Advisory Council and School Leadership Team have been discussing because we know how important a strong school-home partnership is. We want to emphasize that families do not need to wait until conferences to reach out to a staff member here at Cushing for a conversation. Your questions, concerns, and ideas are always welcome, and we're here to support you! I hope you enjoy the long weekend and the crisp weather it brings.

Access KM Resources From Home
Not ALL screen time is created equal.  Strive for more time that is educational and requires creativity versus just consuming media.  Looking for ideas?  The same quality KM resources that your child uses at school are available to them at home.  Click HERE to learn what they are and how you can access them.

Contact Mrs. Klatt at klatth@kmsd.edu if you have any questions.

Guidelines for Keeping Sick Kids at Home
Students must be fever, vomit, and/or diarrhea-free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.

Cooler Weather
The cooler temperatures outside are a reminder that winter is right around the corner and that we need to start wearing layers of clothes to school. Please make sure that you start sending your child(ren) with a coat labeled with their name in case they forget it on the playground. Also, keep in mind that snow pants, boots, jackets, hats, and gloves will be needed in the near future when temperatures drop and snow is on the ground. Again, please make sure all outdoor clothing is labeled with your child(ren)'s name.

Fun Fact: If the temps are 50 degrees or colder - students MUST wear a jacket.

Winter Gear Rules
All Grades: Please make sure all outdoor clothing is labeled with your child(ren)'s name. Lots of students have black snow pants. :)  Bringing hats, mittens, and gloves every day is a good idea, too.

Snow Gear MUST go home every day.  We need to keep the hallways clear for our evening cleaning crew. Plus, wet snow gear doesn’t dry well at Cushing (it can get smelly, too).

5K-3rd Grade: Snow Pants AND boots must be worn to play in the snow.  If a student forgets their snow gear, they will stay on the blacktop for recess. This can cause lots of tears, so please remind your student to bring their snow gear to school every day once the snow starts falling.

4th & 5th Grade:  Boots are required, Snow Pants are optional for recess.

Veterans Day Concert - Friday, November 10
Cushing Elementary will host its annual Veterans Day Concert this year on Friday, November 10th at 2:00 p.m. in the Cushing Elementary gym.  Every year, students learn about the importance of Veterans Day and prepare a concert that honors the men and women of the armed forces. This year, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be performing in the concert.

The staff and students at Cushing would like to honor current and past service members related to our Cushing Star families during this year's concert. Please fill out THIS SURVEY if there is a Veteran or active service member you would like us to acknowledge during the concert. The survey will ask for this service member's name, rank, and branch as well as ask if this veteran will be in attendance and how many guests will be attending. If you include a picture of the Veteran, it will be used in our slide show.

Thank you to the Cushing community for continuing to support the men and women of the armed forces. We hope to honor as many Veterans as we can during our 2023 Veterans Day Concert. Please email Mrs. Post (postemilie@kmsd.edu) with any questions.

Culver’s Night - Cub Scout Pack 20
Please help support our school's Cub Scouts from Pack 20 and have a great meal too! Join us at the Culver's in Wales on Monday, November 6th, from 4pm-7pm for supper. You can go through the drive-thru, order online for curbside pickup, call-in to-go or eat in the dining room, and Culver's will donate 10% to our Pack! Thank you for your support.
