Hello families!
We’re already a quarter of the way through our school year, and students are really hitting their stride! It was wonderful to see so many of our families at conferences recently; thank you for taking the time to connect and partner with us in your child’s learning.
In this week’s update, we’re excited to share more about a new idea we’ve been exploring at Cushing: soundtracks. Soundtracks are the thoughts or phrases that play in our minds throughout the day, kind of like our own background music. These internal “tracks” can shape how we think and feel about challenges.
As we continue to focus on growth mindset, problem solving, and our life skills goals, we’re helping students tune in to their soundtracks to decide if they’re helpful and encouraging. By noticing the messages they tell themselves and choosing positive, empowering ones, students build confidence, persistence, and a love of learning, even when things get tough.
Be sure to check out this week’s video message for a quick update and to hear more about how we’re helping students build positive soundtracks!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Rach

Happy National School Psychology Week!
This week we celebrate Mrs. Kolaga, our esteemed school psychologist here at Cushing Elementary! She helps our students learn, grow, and thrive as Cushing Stars. Mrs. Kolaga works with teachers, families, and students to make sure every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn each day.
As our school psychologist, she provides expert support in learning, behavior, and mental health. She identifies students’ academic strengths and needs, teaches executive function and problem-solving skills, promotes social and emotional growth, and helps create a safe, positive school environment. Mrs. Kolaga works every day to help our students follow our school expectations: be safe, be kind, and do your job.
Shop with a Cop Opportunity Delafield PD is organizing a Shop with Cops opportunity in December. The program is designed to support families who may be facing financial challenges this season and is made possible through community donations and volunteers. Children in 5K–5th grade can shop for family gifts with officers and enjoy breakfast with police, dispatchers, and Santa—all at no cost to families.
If your family is interested or would like to learn more, please contact Mrs. Rach or Ms. Walker.
by November 11th.
