MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Dear Cushing families,

We are excited to invite you to our Spring Celebration of Learning on Thursday, April 24th from 3:15-4:45. This event is an opportunity for our students to proudly showcase their growth and progress over the school year. This open-house style event is a great opportunity for you to see firsthand the growth and progress your student(s) have made, engage with a range of learning experiences and hear your child(ren) reflect on the year!  The Spring Book Fair will also be running during this event. We look forward to celebrating our students’ hard work and continuing strengthening our home-school connection with you! I hope you have a wonderful long weekend and we’ll see everyone back at school on Tuesday, April 22nd.

Shine bright, Stars!
Mrs. Rach

Fifth Grade Families: Message from Middle School Band
We are thrilled you have decided to join us for Band in 6th Grade at Kettle Moraine Middle School! Band is an excellent opportunity to discover your musical talents and enjoy making music with your peers.

Instrument Fittings
Starting next week, Band teachers will visit your elementary school to hold instrument fittings for all students enrolled in Band for next year. During this one-on-one appointment during the school day, we will:

  • Try two instruments of the student’s choice

  • Try one teacher-recommended instrument (if applicable)

  • Discuss and select your top two instrument preferences

After evaluating all of the student's success with instruments, we will finalize instrument assignments. In May, each family will receive a letter confirming their instrument for next year, along with rental information.

Available Instrument Choices
The options for 6th-grade beginning band at KMMS are:

  • Flute

  • Clarinet

  • Alto Saxophone

  • Trumpet

  • Trombone

  • Euphonium

  • Mallet Percussion

We are asking each student visit our website here to learn more about each instrument option BEFORE your fitting date.

The Fitting Day at Cushing will be Monday, April 28th.

We look forward to meeting each student and helping them find their perfect instrument! In May, we will send home additional information after we have completed all fittings and finalized instrument assignments.

Please reach out to weissn@kmsd.edu with any questions or concerns. Welcome to our Band program!

Kindergarten Welcome Night - Wednesday, May 14
An eVite was sent to future 5K families. Please RSVP so we know how many people will join us for our 5K Welcome Night on Wednesday, May 14 – 5:00-6:00 in the Activity Center.

Not only will new & current families meet teachers, our principal, other Cushing staff, and future classmates...you will also learn about our Kindergarten program and how to help your child be ready for that first day!

PLEASE NOTE: If your kindergartner has older siblings at Cushing, it is appreciated if you and your child still attend. This is an important night for our teachers to get to know your child before school starts. Please call the Cushing Office at 262-646-6700 with any questions.

Celebration of Learning - Thursday, April 24
Our Celebration of Learning will be held Thursday, April 24th from 3:15-4:45. Students are excited to share their learning with you! Since our staff need time to set up for the event and there is no student supervision after dismissal, we ask families to pick their students up via Car Line or have their students take their bus home at the end of the school day. Students cannot stay at school and wait for their families.

25-26 Calendar
Here is the 2025-26 school calendar. We’re sharing this in advance with our families to assist in planning future vacations and pre-planned student absences during the next school year. Please reach out to Mrs. Rach if you have any questions about school attendance.

Lost & Found
We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found.  If your child(ren) is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s in our Lost & Found.  The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.  Anything left after the end of the school year will be donated.

Class Placement Information for Next Year
The teams at Cushing take time to carefully balance all classrooms for the next school year.  They take gender, behavior, academics, and special needs into account.  If you have thoughts you would like us to consider about your child that we don’t already know, please complete THIS FORM.  Form(s) need to be submitted by May 2 for your information to be considered.

DelaSpring - May 17 | 10:00-3:00

New this year: we will have the Children's Entrepreneur Market at DelaSpring. The Children’s Entrepreneur Market is an award-winning program that teaches young people about the power of entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership through experiential learning. Kids rise to the challenge of deciding what to sell, creating a booth, talking to customers, and handling money. For more information on how your child can participate in the Children's Entrepreneur Market, visit https://childrensentrepreneurmarket.com/event/delafield/
