MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Hello Cushing Families!

Thank you for checking in on all the exciting things happening at Cushing! It’s been a full and joyful week; our video update features highlights from the Student Services cast party, the fourth-grade business panel, and our school-wide Science Day.

As we wrap up the year, we’re celebrating not only academic growth but also the development of important life skills like executive functioning. In the weeks ahead, students will be working with their teachers to choose a personal goal to carry into the 2025–26 school year. Consider asking your child what goal they’re focusing on!

We’re also continuing to update our Shooting Stars section on the website with videos from throughout the year—check it out here: Cushing Shooting Stars Videos.

Finally, community members are invited to attend our final Listening Session this Saturday from 9:00–11:00 a.m. at KMHS. Below is a reminder of the upcoming dates in the district’s planning timeline:

  • June 3rd: Board special meeting to discuss / act after Community Listening Sessions

  • June 17th: Annual meeting: finalized scenario with details for potential board approval

  • July-August: Finalized decision with full implementation for school year 2026/27

  • Fall ‘26: Implementation

Here is the link to the KMSD Fiscal Planning webpage which is updated regularly.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Rach

Star Slips

Fifth Grade Farewell Information
Fifth grade parents and families are welcome to attend our Fifth Grade Farewell Ceremony at 9:30 on Thursday, June 5.  Parents & Families will be able to enter the school at 9:15.

Unfortunately, we do not have capacity for younger Cushing student siblings at the ceremony.  But don’t worry - they will still be a part of this special day.  Cushing staff & our younger students will give our 5th Grade Stars a proper send-off with a school-wide "clap out" prior to the ceremony.  (The clap out is ONLY for students & staff.)

After the farewell ceremony, fifth grade students can take pictures outdoors with their families, classmates and teachers and leave for the day.  Cushing does ask that younger siblings stay until the end of the day, which is 12:35.

Medication in Health Room
As we approach the end of the school year, it is requested that any unused medication in the Health Room be picked up on or prior to the last day of school, June 5th.  In accordance with school board policy, any unused drug product that is not retrieved shall be disposed of through a local pharmacy. No medication will be returned to students or transported on the bus unless self-carry is indicated by the physician.

If your student will be attending Summer Academy, please let us know if you would like the medication transferred to the Summer Academy Health Room.

A reminder: Medication orders are valid for one school year.   You can find blank medication authorizations on our website: https://www.kmsd.edu/page/forms under Health Services Forms.

If you have any questions, please contact the Health Room at 262-646-6700 x1010.

It's Tick Season
As the weather warms up and our students spend more time outside, we want to remind families to check for ticks especially after outdoor play, field trips, recess, or time in wooded or grassy areas.

Helpful tips for tick checks at home:

  • Check behind ears, around the hairline, under arms, behind knees, and around the waist.

  • Showering after outdoor time can help wash away ticks before they attach.

  • Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily.

  • Tuck pants into socks and wear long sleeves when possible during outdoor activities.

If you do find a tick, follow proper removal guidelines and monitor for any symptoms of illness. For more information, visit CDC Tick Info Page. We'll continue to monitor students here at Cushing as well.

Thank you for helping us keep our students safe and healthy!

Extra Yearbooks for Sale
We have a small supply of extra yearbooks available for sale. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and payment will reserve your copy. Yearbooks are $11 each and can be paid for with cash or check made out to Cushing PTO.  Contact Mrs. Mirek to purchase a copy.

Field Trip Fees
Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check for any unpaid Field Trip and/or Chaperone Fees.  Please make payment by the end of the school year. Thanks!

If you need financial assistance, please contact the principal. If you would like to financially assist another student with general field trip fees, you may donate using the optional fee ‘CE - Field Trip Financial Assist’ found in Infinite Campus.

Lost & Found
We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found.  If your child(ren) is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s in our Lost & Found.  The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.  Anything left after the end of the school year will be donated.

PTO

END OF YEAR GIFT CARD PROGRAM

End of Year Gift Cards

The PTO coordinates an optional End of Year Gift Card Program to say "Thank You & Happy Summer" to all of our Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. The program is meant to help simplify your end of school year gift giving should you choose to participate. This is not a fundraiser.

Here’s how the program works:

You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift.

THIS IS A 2 STEP PROCESS - THIS AMOUNT SHOULD MATCH WHAT YOU ENTERED ON THE GOOGLE FORM!

STEP 1:  Fill the Staff Giving Form 2025 and  please make sure to complete your child/children's first and last name (EXAMPLE: JANE SMITH) then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.).

Then total up your order.

STEP 2: Copy this GIVE BUTTER LINK (https://givebutter.com/CushingEOYgift2025) to pay your total. Click "Donate" and select/enter the amount that matches your google form. These orders will be compiled, and gift cards will be distributed to each individual.

Any amount is appreciated!

COMMUNITY FISCAL PLANNING LISTENING SESSIONS

Fiscal Planning Listening Sessions

We will be conducting listening sessions for the board to hear from community members regarding Scenario IIA for addressing the long-term stability of the district. This is a great opportunity for our community to better understand how closing one elementary school, restructuring our 4K-(4 or 5) district boundaries, and making changes to middle school and high school operations, will impact families. This also provides a forum for our community to inform the decision making process and learn more about each of our elementary schools. For more information on the fiscal planning process, please visit kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning.
