MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

As we near the end of the school year, it's a great time to think about home reading habits. Research consistently shows that a strong foundation in reading not only enhances academic performance but also nurtures critical thinking skills, creativity, and empathy in children. If you haven't already established a consistent reading routine at home, now is the perfect time to start. With summer approaching, maintaining or growing good reading habits will help to keep children engaged and thinking while they’re out of school.

We’ve previously shared reasons why reading at home is so important along with some helpful tips to build in reading at home. By supporting your child(ren)'s reading habits, you're not only laying the groundwork for academic success but also helping them grow their background knowledge while instilling a lifelong love of learning and exploration. As summer nears, we will be sharing some practical options for you and your child(ren) to use at home.

Happy reading!

Mrs. Rach

Kindergarten Welcome Night - Wednesday, May 22
An eVite was sent to future 5K families. Please RSVP so we know how many people will join us for our 5K Welcome Night on Wednesday, May 22 – 5:00-6:00 in the Activity Center.

Not only will new & current families meet teachers, our principal, other Cushing staff, and future classmates...you will also learn about our Kindergarten program and how to help your child be ready for that first day.

PLEASE NOTE: If your future kindergartner has older siblings at Cushing, it is appreciated if you and your child still attend. This is an important night for our teachers to get to know your child before school starts. Please call the Cushing Office at 262-646-6700 with any questions.

Fifth Grade Farewell Information
Fifth grade parents and families are welcome to attend our Fifth Grade Farewell Ceremony at 9:30 on Thursday, June 6.  Unfortunately, we do not have capacity for the younger Cushing student siblings.  There is a school-wide "clap out" at 8:45 that our younger students will participate in to say goodbye to the fifth grade students.  After the farewell ceremony, fifth grade students can take pictures outdoors with their families, classmates and teachers, and then leave for the day.  Cushing does ask that younger siblings stay until the end of the day, which is 12:35.

Music Update We wanted to share with our families that Mrs. Post will be transitioning to Magee Elementary School next school year to pursue a part-time opportunity as she starts her family. We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Post's contributions to Cushing and the positive impact she has had on our students. We know she’ll do great at Magee and we wish her all the best as she embarks on this next chapter. Mrs. Cecilia Hassemer, the part-time music teacher from Magee will be our new music teacher here at Cushing and we are looking forward to welcoming her next year to Cushing.

Lost & Found
We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found.  If your child(ren) is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s in our Lost & Found.  The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.  Anything left after the end of the school year will be donated.

END OF YEAR CUSHING TEACHER & STAFF GIFT CARD PROGRAM - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO WEDNESDAY, MAY 22

*** Deadline to contribute has been extended to Wednesday, May 22 ***

The PTO coordinates an optional Gift Card Program to say "Thank you for a great school year" to all of our Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. The program is meant to help simplify your gift giving should you choose to participate. This is not a fundraiser.

Here’s how the program works:

You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift.

THIS IS A 2 STEP PROCESS:

STEP 1: Click THIS LINK to access the Google form & to see all the staff. Please make sure to complete your child's/children first and last name (EXAMPLE:  JANE SMITH FAMILY) then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.).

Then total up your order. REMEMBER YOUR TOTAL & HIT SUBMIT.

STEP 2: Copy this GIVE BUTTER LINK to pay your total. Click "Donate" and select/enter the amount that matches your Google form. These orders will be compiled and gift cards will be distributed to each individual.

Any amount is appreciated!

*** Deadline to contribute has been extended to Wednesday, May 22 ***
