MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Hello Cushing families!

This week’s update includes information about the KMSD fiscal planning process. It was decided at Tuesday’s board meeting to focus conversations around Scenario IIA, which includes the closure of one elementary school, boundary changes for grades 4K–4 or 5, and adjustments to middle and high school operations. Community members are invited to attend Listening Sessions on May 8 and May 1. Here is the link to the KMSD Fiscal Planning webpage which is updated regularly.

Some recent highlights here at Cushing include field trips to First Stage, Retzer Nature Center, and our 4th grade overnight trip to Camp Whitcomb, with more fun planned this month. This week, we had buddy class activities, welcomed KMHS Drama students who previewed Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, celebrated Principal Appreciation Day and School Lunch Hero day! We are looking forward to honoring our amazing staff during Teacher Appreciation Week next week.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Go Stars!

Mrs. Rach

Fifth Grade Farewell Information
Fifth grade parents and families are welcome to attend our Fifth Grade Farewell Ceremony at 9:30 on Thursday, June 5.  Parents & Families will be able to enter the school at 9:15.

Unfortunately, we do not have capacity for younger Cushing student siblings at the ceremony.  But don’t worry - they will still be a part of this special day.  Cushing staff & our younger students will give our 5th Grade Stars a proper send-off with a school-wide "clap out" prior to the ceremony.  (The clap out is ONLY for students & staff.)

After the farewell ceremony, fifth grade students can take pictures outdoors with their families, classmates and teachers and leave for the day.  Cushing does ask that younger siblings stay until the end of the day, which is 12:35.

Kindergarten Welcome Night - Wednesday, May 14
An eVite was sent to future 5K families. Please RSVP so we know how many people will join us for our 5K Welcome Night on Wednesday, May 14 – 5:00-6:00 in the Activity Center.

Not only will new & current families meet teachers, our principal, other Cushing staff, and future classmates...you will also learn about our Kindergarten program and how to help your child be ready for that first day!

PLEASE NOTE: If your kindergartner has older siblings at Cushing, it is appreciated if you and your child still attend. This is an important night for our teachers to get to know your child before school starts. Please call the Cushing Office at 262-646-6700 with any questions.

Class Placement Information for Next Year
The teams at Cushing take time to carefully balance all classrooms for the next school year.  They take gender, behavior, academics, and special needs into account.  If you have thoughts you would like us to consider about your child that we don’t already know, please complete THIS FORM.  Form(s) need to be submitted by TODAY (May 2) for your information to be considered.

PTO

END OF YEAR GIFT CARD PROGRAM

End of Year Gift Cards

The PTO coordinates an optional End of Year Gift Card Program to say "Thank You & Happy Summer" to all of our Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. The program is meant to help simplify your end of school year gift giving should you choose to participate. This is not a fundraiser.

Here’s how the program works:

You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift.

THIS IS A 2 STEP PROCESS - THIS AMOUNT SHOULD MATCH WHAT YOU ENTERED ON THE GOOGLE FORM!

STEP 1:  Fill the Staff Giving Form 2025 and  please make sure to complete your child/children's first and last name (EXAMPLE: JANE SMITH) then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.).

Then total up your order.

STEP 2: Copy this GIVE BUTTER LINK (https://givebutter.com/CushingEOYgift2025) to pay your total. Click "Donate" and select/enter the amount that matches your google form. These orders will be compiled, and gift cards will be distributed to each individual.

Any amount is appreciated!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Teacher Appreciation

Hello Cushing Families!  Teacher Appreciation Week begins next week, Monday, May 5th.  All week we will be celebrating our teachers!  Click on the image to print out a fun activity your child can complete.  Please bring it to their teacher on May 5th, or anytime throughout the week.

We will also be sending one home in your students backpack!  Let’s show our teachers how much they mean to us! If you would like to know staff’s favorites, please reach out to us and we can let you know! We are also encouraging bringing in a flower for your teacher Thursday or Friday to create a beautiful bouquet for their desk!

COMMUNITY FISCAL PLANNING LISTENING SESSIONS

Fiscal Planning Listening Sessions

We will be conducting listening sessions for the board to hear from community members regarding Scenario IIA for addressing the long-term stability of the district. This is a great opportunity for our community to better understand how closing one elementary school, restructuring our 4K-(4 or 5) district boundaries, and making changes to middle school and high school operations, will impact families. This also provides a forum for our community to inform the decision making process and learn more about each of our elementary schools. For more information on the fiscal planning process, please visit kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning.
