MESSAGE FROM MRS. RACH

Hi Cushing Families!

We’re heading into a fun and reflective final stretch of the school year! This week’s update includes highlights from the week, updates on a few of our school goals, and important dates for the end of this school year and the start of next year.

Our students enjoyed a variety of local field trips, including our second annual Dine for Cushing event at Belfrē. Fifth grade students had the opportunity to shadow a variety of jobs and also participated in a class performance and concert. A big thank you to our Cushing staff and the Belfrē team for hosting and partnering with us to make this a new and fun tradition! Special thanks as well to our PTO for their support and coordination.

Important Upcoming Dates:

  • June 2: Cushing Garden Help -11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

  • June 5: Last Day of School – Early Release at 12:35 p.m.

  • June 6: School Board Special Session agenda posted on the KM website

  • June 11: School Board Special Session – Discussion on potential elementary school closure

  • July 21 – August 3: Online Back-to-School Registration

  • August 26–28: Great Start Conferences (GSC)

  • August 28: 5K Half-Day

  • September 2: First Day of School (2025–26)

Goal Updates: Life Skills & School Culture

This year, we focused on helping students build self-regulation and self-management skills while continuing to strengthen our school culture. Staff and parent feedback indicate positive growth in these areas, with more families and staff reporting that students’ social and emotional needs are being met. We are still in the process of compiling student self-reflection data. Both of these data points are above our targets and show encouraging progress, while also highlighting areas for continued growth.  We’ll be sure to share final updates as we finish gathering end-of-year data.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!

Go Stars!

Mrs. Rach

Bag Needed for Art Class
Students in 5K, 1st, and 2nd Grades should bring in a paper or reusable bag to Art Class next week so they can bring their art projects home.

A paper/reusable bag is OPTIONAL (but, still a good idea) for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.

Fifth Grade Families: KMMS Back-to-School Bash
Attention current fifth grade parents! Mark your calendars for the KMMS Back-to-School Bash on Tuesday, August 26th from 4:00-6:00pm.

Want to help and meet other sixth grade parents? The KMMS PTO is looking for volunteers for this event to help with planning and operations. If you're interested in getting involved in this event and/or want to learn more about the KMMS PTO, please send an email to KMMiddleSchoolPTO@gmail.com

We look forward to meeting you!

Fifth Grade Farewell Information
Fifth grade parents and families are welcome to attend our Fifth Grade Farewell Ceremony at 9:30 on Thursday, June 5.  Parents & Families will be able to enter the school at 9:15.

Unfortunately, we do not have capacity for younger Cushing student siblings at the ceremony.  But don’t worry - they will still be a part of this special day.  Cushing staff & our younger students will give our 5th Grade Stars a proper send-off with a school-wide "clap out" prior to the ceremony.  (The clap out is ONLY for students & staff.)

After the farewell ceremony, fifth grade students can take pictures outdoors with their families, classmates and teachers and leave for the day.  Cushing does ask that younger siblings stay until the end of the day, which is 12:35.

Medication in Health Room
As we approach the end of the school year, it is requested that any unused medication in the Health Room be picked up on or prior to the last day of school, June 5th.  In accordance with school board policy, any unused drug product that is not retrieved shall be disposed of through a local pharmacy. No medication will be returned to students or transported on the bus unless self-carry is indicated by the physician.

If your student will be attending Summer Academy, please let us know if you would like the medication transferred to the Summer Academy Health Room.

A reminder: Medication orders are valid for one school year.   You can find blank medication authorizations on our website: https://www.kmsd.edu/page/forms under Health Services Forms.

If you have any questions, please contact the Health Room at 262-646-6700 x1010.

Extra Yearbooks for Sale
We have a couple of extra yearbooks available for sale. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and payment will reserve your copy. Yearbooks are $11 each and can be paid for with cash or check made out to Cushing PTO.  Contact Mrs. Mirek to purchase a copy.

Field Trip Fees
Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check for any unpaid Field Trip and/or Chaperone Fees.  Please make payment by the end of the school year. Thanks!

If you need financial assistance, please contact the principal. If you would like to financially assist another student with general field trip fees, you may donate using the optional fee ‘CE - Field Trip Financial Assist’ found in Infinite Campus.

Lost & Found
We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found.  If your child(ren) is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s in our Lost & Found.  The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.  Anything left after the end of the school year will be donated.

GALS: End of Year School Supply Collection

Dump and Run

At the end of every school year, students are sent home with a backpack full of old and used supplies: markers, crayons, scissors, etc. Parents are then tasked with finding homes for these items or even worse tossing them, so Gals Institute thought - Let Us Do The Work!

Families can dump their backpacks full of unwanted supplies in a garbage bag and drop them off at the two Drop Off Locations.  Anything they can keep - they will, anything they can donate - they will, any trash they find - they will dispose of it!

It's a win-win and helps Gals reduce the cost of their workshops!
