Hi everyone! I hope that you’ve had an enjoyable summer full of memories and adventures; it was so nice to see everyone at Great Start Conferences and our Back to School Bash! We are looking forward to having everyone back at Cushing on September 5th. In the meantime, I’d love to share a bit with you about our goals for the 2023-2024 school year. As in years past, we have three goals with connecting action steps that we will be working towards this school year: an academic achievement goal, a citizenship and personal development goal and a communications goal.
Our academic achievement goal focuses on increasing our literacy scores while we implement our new English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, myView. Because of this implementation, we hope to see a practically significant increase in our literacy scores as measured by our standardized assessments.
Our citizenship and personal development goal is connected to our goal from the 2022-23 school year; we will focus on growing a respectful and inclusive community at Cushing Elementary School. We expect there to be a practically significant increase in favorable responses to targeted questions on the School Perceptions Survey by students, staff, and parents.
Our communications goal focuses on communicating student progress in the area of literacy (via myView assessments/tools). We will provide parents with focused information about how they might be able to support their learner(s) at home. We hope there will be a practically significant increase in favorable responses on the parent School Perceptions Survey.
Part-Time Paraprofessional Position
Are you or someone you know looking for a part-time position at a great place to work? We are seeking a part-time educational / Library assistant here at Cushing. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling. Responsibilities include: assisting students and staff in the library/media center, light administrative work (answering phone calls, briefly working the front desk), collaborating with teaching staff to support classroom activities/projects among other duties. You can apply for this position HERE; please see Mrs. Rach with questions.
Blessings in a Backpack
Cushing partners with a non-profit organization called Blessings in a Backpack. Through this partnership, students are eligible to be a recipient of the Blessings in a Backpack program.
The program is designed to provide non-perishable food every Friday to children who would benefit from supplemental nourishment over the weekend. The program runs the full 38-week school year and there is no cost to participate. If you choose to participate, your child will receive a bag of non-perishable food every Friday which will be distributed in a discreet and caring manner.
If you would like your child to participate, please email Mrs. Mirek (secretaryce@kmsd.edu).
Yearbooks
Click HERE to order your yearbook. All yearbooks will be handed out at school at the end of the year. Please call/email Empire Photography if you have any questions.
School Pictures
If your learner’s picture was taken during our Great Start Conferences, you should receive an email from Empire Photography containing a link to your child’s private, PIN-protected gallery. If you do not receive an email, please check your spam folder and contact Empire Photography (608-257-2941) if you need assistance.
There is no obligation to order. If you decide to order, you can complete your purchase for photo print and specialty products online. All photo orders will be mailed directly home to the address provided during checkout and will be shipped within 2-5 business days.
Volunteer Applications
All adults need to fill out a Volunteer Application every school year. These applications are required to volunteer in the classrooms, chaperone field trips, join your learner for lunch, help with PTO-sponsored events, etc. Paper forms are in the Front Office. You can also find the form HERE. Please return completed forms to Mrs. Mirek.
