Welcome to the first edition of the revamped Kettle Newspaper!

First, a bit about the Kettle Newspaper & Club: Maggie Melnick is the editor and founder of the newspaper and club. The club will be published three times a year in fall, winter, and spring. In each publication cycle, members write articles on a subject of their choosing and work on it for the duration of the season to eventually publish in the new edition.

This first publication features works from the clubs three founding members, Zaela Schlissel (Junior in KM Global), Natalie Pakula (Junior in KM HS^2), and Maggie Melnick (Junior in KM Legacy).

The club is always looking for more writers or submissions to publish! The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month during advisory in Ms. Klima’s room, which is D27. If you aren’t able to make it to meetings, the club accepts outside submissions for publication in the next cycle. HS^2 is continuing a tradition started last year: Community Engagement Day - on Thursday, December 21st, which is the last day before winter break.

On Community Engagement Day, all HS^2 students and staff will be participating in community events whether it's volunteering at a shelter, making or collecting items to donate, helping out at the elementary and middle schools, and much more. The purpose of this is for students to have an opportunity to be engaged citizens within the community both inside and outside of HS^2, which is a disposition on KM’s Graduate Profile!

To make this day as successful as possible, HS^2 is in need of some items to help them really make a difference! If you have any of the following items and would like to donate, please send them to school with your student(s) or drop them off at the High School Campus Main Office any time before December 21:

For more than 15 years, Main Street Song & Dance Troupe has been a mainstay for some of the most talented performers between the ages of 12 to 18 in southeastern Wisconsin. High school students are invited to explore academics and college life at UW–Madison.

Each summer, Badger Precollege offers a variety of opportunities designed to inspire high school students in course subjects ranging from art, law, and psychology to forensics, health sciences, and computer science.

Badger Precollege programs also help students prepare for college success, experience life as a Badger, and meet new friends — all while living and learning at the top-ranked UW–Madison.

They are now accepting applications for summer 2024! Please share the programs listed below with any student who is interested in learning more about college life and wants to spend their summer learning and making lifelong friends. Need-based scholarships are available for most programs.

Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin is offering this Scholarship opportunity:

• Senior with plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in Engineering (not including Computer Science or Engineering Technology)

Distinguished Young Women of Wisconsin is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership, and talent in young women.

You must be a junior in high school to participate. Class of 2025 participants will attend a local program on January 21, 2024, or February 18, 2024, from 8-2 pm at Franklin High School and if selected to move forward, will continue to a week-long state program this summer at the Franklin Sabers Center. One Wisconsin Distinguished Young Women representative will be selected to continue to nationals the following summer.

Winter skills registration is now open for all KM Lacrosse players who want to hone their skills and be ready for the spring season. It’s also a great way to try the sport for the first time.
