It’s a great day to be a Laser, when we treat one another well. Good morning KMMS students, let’s take a moment and talk again about changes to the middle school for next year. You heard from Ms. Lloyd last Friday and I want to repeat what she said about being grateful for the thoughtful feedback you put into the survey.
Your responses provided many insights and varying perspectives—some embraced the forthcoming changes with enthusiasm, while others expressed understandable apprehension. A big concern was the fear of larger class sizes resulting from the consolidation of Discover and Navigate. Surprisingly, bringing these two houses together will serve to balance our class section sizes more effectively. Students also expressed concerns about having less classes with certain friends. You may have more classes with other friends and less classes with some, and of course, you’ll have the opportunity to make new friends with other students you didn’t have as much time to spend with before.
We plan on working with our 6th and 7th graders this year to build a wider sense of community with our new house and Create, and to prepare you for changes you’ll experience next year. One thing is for sure, we have one of the best middle schools in the state and you will continue to receive an education that prepares you for life beyond middle school.
In addition to the survey you took, you participated in the first round of voting for the name of the new house. No matter what grade or house you are in this year, we want you to vote and have a say. This is your middle school, and we want to give all of you the opportunity to leave your mark on this great place.
Based on feedback and students' first round of voting, we have narrowed the four choices (Prepare, Inspire, Empower, and Legacy) down to two. Please vote on your favorite between the two choices.
We will announce the winning name next Wednesday during the school day. We’re excited to see how the vote turns out. It’s a great day to be a Laser.
It’s a great day… to be a LASER!
