October is National Bullying Prevention Month. As you have heard, we are encouraging all students and staff to wear pink this Friday to show that we are standing up to bullying. Some of you might be wondering, "Why pink?"
It all started back in 2007 at a high school in Nova Scotia, Canada. A 9th grade boy wore a pink shirt on the first day of school and was bullied and harassed for wearing that color. Some students even threatened to beat him up. Two 12th-grade boys found out about the bullying and decided they wanted to help. That night, they messaged and texted as many of their classmates as possible and told everyone to wear pink the next day to support the 9th grade boy who had been bullied. They called it the "Sea of Pink." When the victim came to school the next day, he was overwhelmed by all the support he received and it was a powerful moment to see so many people wearing pink. The story made the news all across Canada and the United States, and now many schools participate in the Sea of Pink. Wear pink TOMORROW to join in the fight against bullying!
Attention orchestra and band students! If you cannot sit with your instrument on your lap (like those larger instruments), please have a parent or guardian pick you up. Some students have been putting instruments in the front seats or next to the driver and the instruments are then not secure. For the safety of all, please abide by Dousman Transportation’s request.
Attention 7th and 8th Grade Band and Orchestra Families!
We are proud to announce an exciting opportunity for students in 7th and 8th grade Band and Orchestra! Starting at the beginning of November, we will rehearse a group after-school that will be learning different Christmas Carols. This year we will perform at the KMHS Band program’s “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 2nd and will also be taking the students on a tour to district elementary schools the week of December 4th.
There is no cost to students other than money for a quick fast food lunch the day of the field trip. Students can register in myLC under the task called “Caroling Signup” or visiting this link (BAND) or this link (ORCHESTRA).
Please let us know if you have any additional questions!
Mrs. Kuehn, Mr. Weiss, or Ms. Weber
The KM Music Parents Board would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all who made this year's Homecoming Chili/Mac and Cheese Dinner a huge success. We served nearly 400 meals and enjoyed the wonderful sense of KM pride and community spirit that buzzed through the cafeteria. This event would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, donations from generous parents and the amazing community that purchased meals. 100% of the proceeds from the event will go directly back to supporting music in the KM School District. Thank you!
The All Campus Musical tickets are on sale. For more information or to purchase tickets, check out the musical website. Performances are from November 9-12.

There are 35 million amputees and disabled people worldwide who need prosthetic devices but do not have access to them?
Traditional prosthetic legs cost between $10,000-$25,000 -- an unattainable price for someone making $3 per day
8th graders in Healthy & Active Lifestyles are participating in a Virtual 5K to raise awareness for Hope to Walk. Hope to Walk is a non-profit organization that helps the impoverished people of the world. Millions of amputees worldwide depend on wheelchairs and crutches. Some are even forced to crawl simply because they cannot afford prosthetics. Please consider donating. Last year, students raised enough money to purchase a leg for Santos, a 61-year old man from Honduras. Our goal this year is to raise enough money to purchase TWO (or more) prosthetic legs.
