The PTO is excited to have their ONE and ONLY Scholastic Book Fair this year. Every purchase at the fair benefits our school. Last year's book fair profits were over $1,000 and the PTO purchased many needed books for our classrooms. We would love to have volunteers help run our book fair during the week. Ladies, this next announcement is just for you! Statistics show that ladies working in STEM-related careers is growing and that they are having a positive impact on industry. Last year we ran an inaugural event called Laser Ladies of STEM. We had such a great turnout and feedback that we are running TWO more evening events this year! The events will have hands-on activities, a mindfulness session, music and social time.  To sign up to join the club and receive notification of the events, click on this link and sign up. The Student Senate will be sponsoring this year’s Halloween Dress-up day on Tuesday, October 31st.
Guidelines for costumes:

1. No Masks or other costume items that are obstructive to vision or movement

2. No weapon-like props

3. NO Face, and Body painting!

4. No offensive or discriminatory costumes

5. Orange & black or Halloween T's count (Please don’t count those wearing just black.

6. All other Dress Code expectations apply

• There is a first, second, and third-place banner. (House teachers will report the percentage of their students who participate that day).

• Throughout the year, there will be more competitions where houses can win and gain more banners to display.

Western Lakes Golf Club is providing a new KM Junior Lasers Golf Team for KM students in 3rd - 8th grades. This youth golf league will hold team practices and coordinate matches against other area participants, by school district, from Brookfield, Sussex, Menomonee Falls & Germantown. Their non-profit organization is also in the process of building out an indoor golf facility. To tryout, attend only one date, at Western Lakes Golf Club: Sat. October 21st 2PM-4PM, Sun. Kettle Moraine Middle School is a proud partner of a non-profit organization called Blessings in a Backpack. Through this partnership, your child is eligible to be a recipient of the Blessings in a Backpack program. This program is currently in all of the Kettle Moraine Elementary schools.  

The program is designed to provide non-perishable food every Friday to children that
would benefit from supplemental nourishment over the weekend. The program runs the
full school year and there is no cost to participate. If you choose to participate, your child
will receive a bag of non-perishable food every Friday which will be distributed in a discreet and caring manner. If you want your child(ren) to participate, please complete this form. 

The Coding Club's next meeting will be on October 24th.

The next Student Senate meeting will be on Monday, October 23rd right after school. The meeting will be in Mrs. McCaffery’s room, 609.

The Patriot’s Pen scholarship is available to ALL students in grades 6-8 and is sponsored by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Genesee.  To apply for this scholarship, you must write a 300-400 word essay on the topic, “How are you inspired by America?”  You must also pick up an application in the front office.  Send your essay and your completed application to:

• Traditional prosthetic legs cost between $10,000-$25,000 -- an unattainable price for someone making $3 per day

8th graders in Healthy & Active Lifestyles are participating in a Virtual 5K to raise awareness for Hope to Walk. Hope to Walk is a non-profit organization that helps the impoverished people of the world. Millions of amputees worldwide depend on wheelchairs and crutches. Some are even forced to crawl simply because they cannot afford prosthetics. Please consider donating. Last year, students raised enough money to purchase a leg for Santos, a 61-year old man from Honduras. Our goal this year is to raise enough money to purchase TWO (or more) prosthetic legs. 

The KM Forensics Speech Team, where students speak with conviction, meets on Wednesdays after school in Room 603 until 4 pm. Popcorn and hot chocolate will be served.

Happy Friday everyone.  We are coming up on Conferences soon.  It is a good time to pause and think about what has gone well and what areas are there to improve on. 

How are you doing on the goals you have set for yourself?  Are you on track?  Do any adjustments need to be made to help you reach your goals?  Remember goals are a process and help provide us with direction.  Keep working towards them.  

How are your classes going?  Are you meeting deadlines and getting your work done on time?  Are you challenging yourself? 

How are you doing with meeting school expectations?  Are you abiding by the cell phone policy or are you needing to work on keeping your phone away? Remember that your cell phone should be in your locker or in the pocket chart in the classroom.  It should not be out during class and there should never be any video recording of others.  

How are your interactions towards others?  Are you treating people well?  Are you being an upstander?  

How are you being treated?  Remember if you are working through a conflict with someone or are not being treated well, let an adult know so we can help.  Our school board policy 2402 on the Code of Student Conduct states that we all must show consideration for fellow students/staff, promote good decorum, and contribute to a favorable academic atmosphere. Decorum means polite and appropriate behavior.

Spend some time reflecting on your progress and how things are going.  If you need help, let an adult know.  We are here to help.  If you see someone that needs help, lend a helping hand.
