The mountain bike team had a great showing at the Trek Trails State Championship in Waterloo this past weekend. Over 1300 student-athletes from across the state competed in the final race of the season. Congratulations to the KMMS student-athletes on a successful season!

LYBA Basketball registration closes this Friday, October 25th. Sign up for recreational basketball this winter with one day a week practice and games on Saturday mornings at the Middle School.

Season Information: All practice sessions are held on Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 in the high school wrestling rooms. Practice groups are based on experience/skill level and age group as needed. The Beginner and Intermediate groups practice two days a week for 60 minutes and the Advanced group practices up to four days a week for 90 minutes. For the Beginner group, the season starts the second week in December and concludes the first week in March during our annual Family Night event. The Intermediate and Advanced groups begin practice in the middle of November, finishing up with Team State and Individual State in March.

Laser Ladies of STEM will have a meeting after school on Wednesday, October 23rd. This meeting will be for all 8th grader leaders elected to a position as well as all committee members. We will meet right after school until 3:45. See you all then! As always, see Mrs Olson with any questions.
We are excited to announce that Best Buddies is returning to the Middle School! Best Buddies is a club for students with and without disabilities to build friendships, gain leadership skills, and have some fun! If you are interested in joining, please get in touch with Mrs. Suvaka, our school's speech-language pathologist, for more information! The first event is Wednesday, October 23rd from 2:45 - 3:30.
Our club is having a kick-off the season meeting on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6pm-8pm in the KM high school library.
Willy Wonka Jr. auditions are on the horizon! Auditions are open to all students The musical information meeting will be after school on November 6th from 2:45-3:15. Audition workshops are November 11th and 13th. Auditions will be November 18th and 19th. See Ms. Milton in the choir room (rm. 111) with any questions. The KMMS PTO will hold our annual Scholastic book fair beginning Monday, October 28th. This year the book fair will be open before and after the Band concerts on Monday and Tuesday evenings. It will also be open on Monday, November 4th during the Parent/Teacher Conferences. Watch for additional day time and afterschool hours.

The Student Senate invites you to plan your Halloween apparel for Thursday, October 31st. We’d love to see our building filled with Halloween themed clothing or school appropriate costumes that day.

The Student Senate and PTO will be holding the first dance of the year on Friday, November 1st from 6-8pm. Admission is $6. If you bring a full sized non-perishable food item, the admission will be only $5. Each entry fee includes a glow bracelet. Other glow items and concessions will be available for purchase. If you would like to “glow” during the dance, wear light colored items.

The Patriot’s Pen scholarship is available to ALL students in grades 6-8 and is sponsored by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Oconomowoc. To apply for this scholarship, you must write a 300-400 word essay on the topic, “My Voice in America’s Democracy.” You must also pick up an application in the front office. Many winners nationwide will be selected, with at least one winner from each state receiving a prize of $500 or more. In addition to the prizes at the State and National level, the local Oconomowoc post offers prizes for 1st ($100), 2nd ($50) and 3rd ($25) place. The VFW Post requests to receive your materials by October 25 so they can review the applications for completeness and notify you if anything is missing. KMMS retake days are scheduled for Monday, November 4th (7-10:30am) and Thursday, November 7th (3:30-6:30pm). These are not school days, they are parent/teacher conference days.

You are invited to join the KM Forensic Team, where students learn to speak with conviction. Whether performing a dramatic monologue or delivering a persuasive speech, this team helps us build communication skills with confidence and clarity. Through practice and competition, we gain the tools to express ideas with passion and precision. It’s a place to grow, find your voice, and make an impact—because every argument we make and story we tell has the power to shape the world around us.
