National Children’s Grief Awareness Day is observed this Thursday as a day to support those experiencing grief or loss and to bring social awareness to the journey of grief. Tomorrow we will kick off our week of activities with the Memory Wall which will be located in the cafeteria. Please stop by to honor and recognize the loss of your loved one by signing their name on a heart, during your lunch period. Our fundraiser competition kicks off tomorrow to raise money for The Healing Hearts of Waukesha, a non-profit organization that helps and supports those who grieve. Please bring your dollars or change and drop it in the bucket either before school in the front vestibule or during your lunch period. The grade level to donate the most money will win an ice cream party that will occur Tuesday, November 21st. You will also notice butterflies hanging up around the building so, please take notice of the powerful messages as a way to help you through your journey of grief.
The robust music curriculum in KM goes far beyond concerts and performances. A well-balanced music education requires students to undertake major academic work including deciphering a rich content-specific vocabulary, decoding music notation with fluency, speed, and accuracy, and analysis and application of expressive intent and contextual connections. In addition to the academic and performative skills that students develop through music participation, our KM students also apply their musical talents to serve the local KM community, in alignment with the Graduate Profile.
Here you see middle school orchestra students undertaking a process known as "score study." After analyzing a piece of music as a group, students make determinations about whether the piece is appropriate for their ensemble. Students love to choose the music they study and perform!
The Student Senate has a time of fun and activities planned for the last hour of the day on Tuesday, November 21. That is right before we head out for Thanksgiving Break. There will be a number of games where grade level teams will be competing against each other and a group of teachers. This week you will have an opportunity to put your name into a lottery to be chosen as one of the students who participates in a game. If you would prefer to watch or will be absent that day, you do not need to complete the Google form. All students who are present that day will come to be a part of the fun, but we do need students to participate in our team games. Watch for your opportunity to apply to play.
Join the KM Music Parents Association for our November meeting on Monday, November 13th at 6:30pm at KMHS in the Perform Community Room. We'll be reviewing grant requests and previewing the schedule of upcoming music concerts. All parents/guardians of music students are welcome to participate. You can reach us at kmmpaboard@gmail.com.
