KMMS DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

NOVEMBER 16, 2023 - Blue day

PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

CHILDREN'S GRIEF AWARENESS DAY

Today we are recognizing National Children's Grief Awareness Day. Thank you to everyone who wore blue to show your support on this important day. Many people don't realize that it takes most children longer to deal with their grief than we expect, and we don’t have any idea of the amount of inner turmoil they’re experiencing. We raise awareness so that people will realize that even if there is no outward sign of turmoil, those storms can still be raging inside a grieving student's heart. Today is the last day to fill out a heart with the name of someone special you’re grieving, either through illness or loss, as a way to honor and recognize them. You are also encouraged to write a letter to them and drop it in the sealed box during your lunch period, today as well. Tomorrow will be the final day to contribute to the competition fundraiser, so please bring your dollars and change to win an ice cream party on the final day before Thanksgiving Break - we have to raise at least $300 in total in order to earn an ice-cream party. So far  each grade has only donated a couple dollars each.

KMMS 8TH GRADER LEADING SUPPLY DRIVE FOR CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

KMMS Student Senate is sponsoring a supply drive for Children's Hospital, led by 8th grader Iris Fouts!  The purpose of this drive is to collect books, arts & crafts, and other activities for patients and family members of patients who are in isolation in the ICU at Children's.  Here's what Iris had to say about it:

"I was inspired to start this supply drive because I have had the experience of being in the hospital over the holidays while my brother was receiving treatment in the ICU.  Being in isolation can be hard for siblings because we aren't allowed to do things that kids outside of isolation can do.  Because of this, I want to help make the holidays a little brighter for people in isolation."

Donated items must be NEW, less than 12" tall, and not homemade. To make sure your item is acceptable, check out THIS list of requirements.

If you wish to donate an item, please place it in one of the labeled bins in the front hallway or the front office.  The deadline to donate your items is Friday, December 8.

ALL SCHOOL ASSEMBLY - Tuesday, November 21st

The Student Senate has a time of fun and activities planned for the last hour of the day on Tuesday, November 21. That is right before we head out for Thanksgiving Break. There will be a number of games where grade level teams will be competing against each other and a group of teachers. This week you will have an opportunity to put your name into a lottery to be chosen as one of the students who participates in a game. If you would prefer to watch or will be absent that day, you do not need to complete the Google form. All students who are present that day will come to be a part of the fun, but we do need students to participate in our team games. Watch for your opportunity to apply to play.
