Thank you to everyone who showed support to those who are experiencing grief in their life. Today is the last day to donate money to The Healing Hearts of Waukesha during your lunch period. Please know that we are always here for you on your journey to healing after a loss. A special thanks to all of the Student Ambassadors that helped with the week of activities to honor those who are grieving. An announcement will be made early next week if an ice cream party is earned. The party will take place next week Tuesday, the last day before Thanksgiving Break.
Mrs Olson's 7th grade Computer Science class focused on wiring circuits and programming Arduinos this past month. This group of students were able to meet the challenge of designing a pedestrian intersection with a push button and wire it up to function with their program. We then learned about electrician trades and electrical engineering jobs that might work on these types of projects. Take a close look at the picture to see the $100,000 bill they were paid with! Another student took a further step and wired up an LCD screen to display a message. Way to go 7th graders!
Today is the relaunch of our Middle School video announcements!
*Error in the video announcements, please note the correct grade level colors for the All School Assembly are: 6th-Green, 7th-Red, 8th-Blue.
KMMS Student Senate is sponsoring a supply drive for Children's Hospital, led by 8th grader Iris Fouts! The purpose of this drive is to collect books, arts & crafts, and other activities for patients and family members of patients who are in isolation in the ICU at Children's. Here's what Iris had to say about it:
"I was inspired to start this supply drive because I have had the experience of being in the hospital over the holidays while my brother was receiving treatment in the ICU. Being in isolation can be hard for siblings because we aren't allowed to do things that kids outside of isolation can do. Because of this, I want to help make the holidays a little brighter for people in isolation."
Donated items must be NEW, less than 12" tall, and not homemade. To make sure your item is acceptable, check out THIS list of requirements.
If you wish to donate an item, please place it in one of the labeled bins in the front hallway or the front office. The deadline to donate your items is Friday, December 8.

The Student Senate has a time of fun and activities planned for the last hour of the day on Tuesday, November 21. That is right before we head out for Thanksgiving Break. There will be a number of games where grade level teams will be competing against each other and a group of teachers. This week you will have an opportunity to put your name into a lottery to be chosen as one of the students who participates in a game. If you would prefer to watch or will be absent that day, you do not need to complete the Google form. All students who are present that day will come to be a part of the fun, but we do need students to participate in our team games. Grade-levels are asked to wear the following colors: 6th-Green, 7th-Red, 8th-Blue for the assembly day. Teachers and staff members, please wear your Staff T-shirts.

It is a great day to be a Laser, when we treat one another well. Good morning KMMS students and happy Friday. I want to take a moment to congratulate all of our 7th and 8th graders who were here last year at KMMS. You all put forth your best effort on the FORWARD state test, and the results showed that you did amazing. Our school recently was issued a report card by the state of Wisconsin, and we significantly exceeded expectations. We rank as one of the best middle schools in the entire state of Wisconsin. It’s pretty cool.
It makes me think about all of the amazing opportunities ahead of you in life. But success in life will be more than your ability to read, write, and solve math equations. While these educational skills are a big part of success, there are other skills that you will need to develop to be successful. Believe it or not, many of these skills relate to how you treat other people.
You may have heard of indeed.com. Indeed is the #1 jobsite in the entire world and has paired people with their dream jobs. Indeed.com also has many resources and puts out information on what employers are looking for in future employees. Indeed emphasizes a variety of skills, like communication, collaboration, time management, organization, critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, self-direction, goal-setting, adaptability, and leadership. Collaboration will require you to work with others, to treat them well, and to contribute to a common goal.
Indeed also has a resource that describes the top reasons why people are fired from their jobs. The reasons include poor work performance like skipping important tasks, poor attendance, damaging property or stealing, and violating internal policies. The internal policies of workplaces have striking similarities to our school board policies and school handbooks. For instance, your professionalism in the language you use and how you treat other people. Workplaces have no tolerance for racist jokes, racial slurs, making fun of people who are different from you, condescending behavior towards others, or overall poor treatment. Workplaces want everyone to have a sense of belonging, for everyone to be respected, and for everyone to be able to bring their best self to work each day and contribute to the common goals of the workplace, and not have to worry about the poor treatment from other people.
This is so similar to KMMS. Every student has the right to come to this school and be treated with respect. When students make fun of those different from them, or make jokes about people who are different from them, we are not representing who we really are, which is one of the best middle schools in the state. We are better than that behavior, we are better than racist jokes and slurs, we are better than making fun of differences.
If someone is treating you poorly, please reach out to a trusted adult, like a teacher, counselor, or principal. It is important that everyone is treated with respect, that everyone develops the interpersonal skills to thrive at their dream jobs one day, and that we only continue to get better here at KMMS. As always, it’s a great day to be a Laser, when we treat each other well. Have a great weekend.
It’s a great day… to be a LASER!
