Susan La Flesche Picotte became the first Native American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States in 1889. As a child, Susan La Flesche had watched a sick Indian woman die because the local white doctor would not give her care. She later credited this tragedy as her inspiration to train as a physician, so she could provide care for the people she lived with on the Omaha Reservation. Susan faced many barriers in her journey to become a physician. Most medical schools at that time did not even accept women. Despite the challenges she faced, Susan La Flesche finished first in her class and spent her career treating and inspiring others, including fighting against tuberculosis, going on speaking tours, and even campaigning for the legal allotment of land for the Omaha tribe.
Please do not leave your computer in the car overnight when it’s below freezing. Below-freezing temperatures can cause permanent battery and LCD screen damage.
Bringing a cold computer into a warm environment can cause condensation inside the device. Condensation inside your computer can cause additional damage to hard drives and other components.
If you do forget and leave your computer in freezing temperatures do not use it right away. Allow your computer to slowly come to room temperature again before powering it on.
School computer warranties do not cover replacement batteries and only cover damaged screens once.
As temperatures drop, our students should be aware of some expectations for outdoor time during lunch. If the outdoor temperature is below 40 degrees, you must be wearing long pants and some sort of hoodie or jacket to go outside (in other words - no shorts, and not just a T shirt). If you make the decision to go outside, the expectation is that you remain outside until the end of lunch.
Shout-out to the KM Boys 7th grade Navy basketball team for taking 1st place over the weekend at the round robin tournament in Poynette. Awesome start to the season. Keep up the great work.
