KMMS DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

DECEMBER 7, 2023 - Blue day

PEARL HARBOR REMEMBRANCE DAY

Gov. Tony Evers today ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Thursday, December 7, 2023, in honor of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

“Each year, in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we lower the flags across our state to honor the more than 50 service members from Wisconsin who lost their lives, the more than 2,000 other individuals who were killed, and the countless others who were injured or whose lives were forever changed by the attack on Pearl Harbor,” said Gov. Evers. “Today, we remember and pay tribute to these individuals, including so many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice, and we offer our gratitude and respect for our veterans and service members as we reflect upon a dark day in our nation’s history and ensure future generations understand and appreciate their memory and their legacy.”

PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

DECEMBER'S THEME IS "GIVING BACK"

Pearl Harbor Day: Today marks the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  On Sunday, December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Though most of the survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor and those who served in World War II are no longer with us, we will always remember their courage and devotion to our country. They truly shaped America into what it would become over the next half century and beyond.  Generations of Americans remain forever grateful to them for their unyielding love of country and sacrifice.

HOUR OF CODE AND COMPUTER SCIENCE

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Hour of Code activities this week. From the Blooket, the question with the most correct answers was about the MIT computers that are capable of detecting fake smiles. The question that proved to be most difficult was that the first gigabyte drive in 1980 weighed 550 pounds -- that's pretty heavy! Using the first attempt that students had (if they played multiple times), the winners of the Blooket contest were Annabelle B in 6 Discover, Jackson D in 7 Navigate, and Sawyer M in 8 Navigate. Prizes will be delivered to laser hour teachers. Thanks for playing everyone! Final winners of the word scramble will be announced next week.
