Hank Aaron - Hammerin’ Hank may have been born in Alabama, but we in the Badger State will claim him anyway. He famously played his first minor league baseball season with the Eau Claire Bears in 1952, becoming the league’s Rookie of the Year at the tender age of 18. He went on to a legendary major league career, playing for the Milwaukee (then Atlanta) Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers, being named an All-Star 21 times, and setting the all-time home run record. Aaron encountered plenty of racism in his life, but nothing prepared him for the hatred and death threats he received as he chased Babe Ruth’s career home run record nearly in 1974. Hank Aaron started and ended his professional career in Wisconsin. Hammerin’ Hank died at the age of 86 in January 2021.

The 8th grade girls Kettle Moraine Basketball teams are raising funds to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The NICU plays a vital role in caring for babies born premature in our community. Premature babies can spend days, weeks, and even months in the NICU while they gain strength to eventually go home, making the time that parents get to spend with their babies vital. The Waukesha Hospital NICU attempts to normalize and create positive memories during their stay in the hospital. One of the ways they do that is by taking holiday themed pictures and encouraging ‘normal’ holiday celebrations. They are in need of donations to continue to support these celebrations and special bonding moments. Please consider donating cash or preemie sized (new) clothing with a holiday theme. All of the money raised will be used to purchase preemie holiday clothing and all donations will be given to the Waukesha Memorial NICU.
You can donate at the entrance to the Sweetheart Tournament this weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Donations can be cash or preemie clothes.
The Student Senate is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dress up contest on Wednesday, February 14th. Students are encouraged to wear RED and PINK clothing or clothing items that feature hearts or other Valentine’s Day theme graphics. Teachers will be reporting the percentage of student participants from their houses that day in order to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Banners will be awarded.
