KMMS DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

May 22, 2024 - BLUE

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

MAY IS MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH

Read by Gracie W

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.  This month, KMMS joins in paying tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.  Two important dates in the month of May influenced the decision to use this month.  As NPR explains, “May 7, 1843, marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States. And May 10, 1869, or Golden Spike Day, recognizes the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S., which had significant contributions from Chinese workers.”

NATIONAL SPEECH PATHOLOGIST DAY

Earlier this week was National Speech Pathologist Day, and Kettle Moraine Middle School would like to recognize our own Speech and Language Pathologist, the fantastic Mrs. Suvaka!  Mrs. Suvaka has an incredible impact on many students, and her work here  supports literacy development, boosts self-esteem and confidence, enhances communication skills, and fosters a sense of belonging.  Mrs. Suvaka brightens the day of any student or staff she sees, and she goes above and beyond to make KMMS a great place to learn!

CONSIDER DONATING - PASSION PROJECT NONPROFIT SUPPORT

Several students from Mrs. Gehrke's Literacy class are collecting donations to local nonprofits as part of their passion projects.  Please look in the front entry hallway to find boxes where you can drop off items for HAWS, the Hope Center, or a local women's shelter!  Items needed include hygienic items, water bottles, garbage bags, pet food, paper towels, and many more.  Check the boxes and posters in the front entryway for a full list!  Thank you for considering supporting these great causes.

STUDENT DISMISSAL

Students - Whether you are walking home, getting picked up or riding your bike, ALWAYS cross at the marked crosswalk. This is where adults are stationed to help you cross Ottawa Ave safely.  Please remember to also use the sidewalk after you have crossed the street.

Drivers - Please be patient as we close out the school year and battle the congestion and increased traffic due to the Bridge work on Hwy 18.  We are all looking forward to this project being completed… hopefully before the end of the school year!

Please remind your student to use the crosswalk and sidewalks. Please be alert and watch for pedestrians and stop for people in crosswalks. Thanks for working together to make our community safer.
