The First Transcontinental Railroad was 1,911 miles of railroad constructed in the 1860s to connect the existing railroad tracks in the eastern United States to the west coast of the United States. Completed in May of 1869, the railroad took a tremendous amount of work to construct, including difficult manual labor like building bridges, blasting through rock, and digging tunnels. Thousands of Chinese workers helped to complete this enormous project, and some of the workers who came directly from China, speaking very little or no English, were paid lower wages than their American coworkers.

2. 8th Graders - BEFORE you get to keep your KM Chromebook, all Chromebook fees MUST be paid or the buyout fee must be paid to keep a computer that was exempted or lent for the year. Please be sure to review your Infinite Campus account or ask Mrs. Akers if you have any questions.

QUESTION: What did the flag say to the pole?
ANSWER: Nothing, it just waved!
It is a great day to be a Laser, when we treat one another well. Good morning KMMS students. This will be our final principal announcement of the school year and I want to take some time to celebrate some of the growth of our school.
All students are here to learn and get the best education possible. As a school staff, in order to ensure this, we do not just plan around academics. Reading, writing, and learning new things is the primary reason we are here. But when we bring 700+ students inside of a building for 9 months, we must also focus on citizenship and how we treat one another. This directly affects everyone’s opportunities to receive a quality education.
We had 571 of our students take the School Perceptions survey this spring. Here are some of our school’s areas of growth we’d like to highlight and celebrate.
You were asked to respond to the statement: “Students treat me with respect.” Last school year, 69.8% of you answered positively. This school year, 76.7% of you responded positively.
You were asked: “I feel safe at school.” Last year, 86.5% of you answered positively. This year, 91.5% of you answered positively.
Last year, 81% of you said “you were proud to attend KMMS.” This year, 88% of you said you were proud to attend our school.
These were some of our outstanding results.
We experienced growth in other areas as well.
You were asked: “Most kids at school follow the rules.” We jumped from 53% to 57.7%.
You were asked “If I were bullied, I would feel comfortable talking to someone about it.” We saw an increase of 64% to 68.6% in positive responses.
While we are pleased we are trending upwards, but the results show that we have a lot of work to do. How you treat one another mattered all year, and it will continue to matter again next year, whether you are back at KMMS or moving on to KMHS. In order to be one of the best middle schools in the state, we must actively do our part to make sure we treat one another with respect, we report incidents of bullying, and we actively work with our teachers and all staff to follow the rules so we have a civil place for all to learn.
It’s been a great school year. Please finish the last week by treating one another well.
And for our 8th graders, as you prepare to finish your middle school journey, we want to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for the growth and leadership you have shown over the years. Your time here has been marked by significant achievements, both academically and personally, and your contributions have enriched our school community immensely.
You have demonstrated leadership, setting a positive example for your peers and younger students alike. Your commitment to our theme of "Treating Each Other Well" has been particularly inspiring. Through your actions, you have shown kindness, respect, and empathy, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
As you move on to high school, we encourage you to carry forward these values. Continue to treat people well, embracing kindness and respect in all your interactions. The lessons you've learned here about empathy and understanding are more important than ever as you step into new challenges and opportunities.
Remember that leadership is not just about titles or positions, but about making a difference in the lives of others. Your ability to positively influence those around you will be a powerful tool as you navigate the years ahead.
Thank you for your dedication, your growth, and the wonderful memories you've left us with. We are incredibly proud of each of you and excited to see the great things you will accomplish in the future.
Best of luck in high school…we are going to miss you!
Happy Friday everyone. Have a great Weekend!
It’s a great day… to be a LASER!
