NATIONAL HISTORY DAY STATE

Congratulations to the 11 young historians who presented their research at Saturday’s National History Day State competition at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Participants included Hadley B, Stanley C, Emmie D, Mila D, Kieleen E, Reagan H, Cecilia H, Greta K, Bryn M, Caden Q, and Vyla S. These students showcased their work through a documentary, extended research papers, websites, or museum-style exhibits.

Two students — Reagan H and Cecilia H — took top honors with their website: Social Security: Balancing Individual Rights and Shared Responsibilities in a Democratic Society. They will represent our school, our community, and our state at the national level held at the University of Maryland. Each year, approximately 500,000 students participate in NHD, including 10,000 from Wisconsin.

Hadley Byrne received the Archival Research Award and a $100 prize for her extended, footnoted research paper titled “Fred Korematsu: Challenging the Violation of Rights and the Government’s Responsibility to Protect All Citizens.”

Congratulations to all of our students who represented us well on Saturday. Your deep thinking and grit inspire all of us.

BEST BUDDIES

On Saturday, KMMS Best Buddies participated in the Annual Best Buddies Walk of Wisconsin, where they raised awareness for kids with disabilities and the importance of inclusion. The Middle School team raised a total of $790 for the Best Buddies organization!

The event included a giant dance party, jump house, fun prizes, and even meeting Sal Frelick from the Milwaukee Brewers! But most importantly, the walk was an opportunity for students of all abilities to feel welcome, have fun, and spend time with their peers!

Mrs. Suvaka wants to give a shout out to all of the students & their family who attended! They did an awesome job representing KMMS & she is so proud of them!

COMMUNITY FISCAL PLANNING LISTENING SESSIONS!!!

We will be conducting listening sessions for the board to hear from community members regarding Scenario IIA for addressing the long-term stability of the district. This is a great opportunity for our community to better understand how closing one elementary school, restructuring our 4K-(4 or 5) district boundaries, and making changes to middle school and high school operations, will impact families. This also provides a forum for our community to inform the decision making process and learn more about each of our elementary schools. For more information on the fiscal planning process, please visit kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning.
