Roberto Clemente was a professional baseball player who was an icon in his native Puerto Rico and one of the first Latin American baseball stars in the United States. He spent his entire career, 18 seasons, with the Pittsburgh Pirates. His outstanding arm was perhaps his greatest physical asset. He won 12 Gold Gloves, the award given to the best fielding player in each position in the league. He is also in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Roberto was very involved in community service and philanthropy. Major League Baseball honors Roberto’s legacy with the Roberto Clemente Award, which is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, and positivity on and off the field. The Brewers’ Christian Yelich has been nominated for the award this year. You can find out more about this year’s nominees and vote HERE.
