Hello KMMS Families,
We recently surveyed our students as a “check-in” to see how KMMS is doing on our goal of building a unified KM. One of the questions we asked was about student-to-student respect. Here is how our students responded:
It was wonderful to see 94% of our students answered positively, but we want to highlight a theme that emerged in students' comments about disrespectful treatment. “Teasing” was definitely a theme that students feel could be improved. Ms. Lloyd and I often hear from students, “I was just joking around,” or “it was meant to be funny.” Below are talking points we give to students about what is “off-limits” when it comes to humor. In addition to those topics that are off-limits, we talk about not making “jokes” at the expense of others and that if everyone can’t laugh, it’s probably not funny. Have you heard of the term rage-baiting from your child(ren)? Yeah, rage-baiting isn’t cool and can cause issues in school. We have a wonderful group of students at KMMS, but we will always strive for continual school improvement and focus on treating one another well. Thank you for all of your support.
It is off limits to “joke” about:
Physical appearance
Religious beliefs
Political beliefs
Gender
Race
Anything sexual in nature
Asking people personal questions to embarrass them in front of others
Have a great weekend,
Matt Kitzerow

This week, our 4th annual Laser Ladies of STEM event welcomed a record number of participants! Students rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on BreakerSpace experience, diving into the worlds of mechanical and chemical engineering.
Participants began by exploring and disassembling old electronics to uncover the inner workings of technology. From there, they transformed those salvaged components into innovative new creations, blending curiosity, creativity, and engineering know-how.
It was an inspiring night of discovery and design—where our future inventors truly made something amazing out of the broken!
Best Buddies was busy this past week with 2 events: Culver's Care Night on Monday and Match/Pumpkin Painting Party on Wednesday.
On Monday night, a group of Best Buddies members helped serve food at the Culver's in Wales from 4-7pm. It was great to see everyone's enthusiasm! We raised over $400 for our program that night.
Then on Wednesday, we had our Match Party and Pumpkin Painting event. Over 55 members attended along with High School Best Buddies members. The room was filled with conversation, laughter, and lots of creativity!
Our next event will be Wednesday, November 19th from 2:45-3:30. More details to come as we get closer to the event.
We are quickly approaching the first performances of the year! Since our “Costume Concert” is a little different from other performances, we want to share with you how everything will work and the important information your family needs. This will be an exciting concert, and we are thrilled of the progress the students have made so far this year!
Due to the large number of students in our Band program and our limited gym capacity, there are two nights of performances. Please note which night your child is performing:
October 27th: Students in 3rd Hour Band, all 8th graders, and 6th grade (flute, baritone, trombone, and percussion)
October 28th: Students in 4th Hour Band and 6th grade (trumpet, clarinet, and alto saxophone)
Both concerts will start at 7pm in the large gym at Kettle Moraine Middle School, and students need to arrive at 6:30pm (7th and 8th grade percussion students should arrive at 6:20pm).
Concert Attire: Students can wear our traditional concert black as shown here OR are welcome to dress in a costume of their choice. Keep in mind that this is a fun family event!
Costumes must be school appropriate including NO complete face coverings or masks, body paint, suggestive outfits, fake blood, gross/gruesome, or weapons of any kind (even play weapons are prohibited). Students wearing costumes MUST be able to sit and play their instruments (sorry, no inflatable costumes). We are also asking that students leave all accessories/props at home unless the item is meant to be attached to the outfit at all times (no witch brooms or shields please!).
If a student arrives in an inappropriate costume, they will be asked to change immediately or might not be able to perform. Please make sure your child’s costume choice is appropriate in advance to prevent any issues coming up, and feel free to contact weissn@kmsd.edu with any questions.
