Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

The messaging to all of our students continues with October’s theme of “It’s a great day to be a Laser, when we treat each other well.” In addition to counselor and principal videos, Ms. Lloyd and I have visited some of our grade level houses this week, and will visit the rest next week. We reviewed our KMORR policies, discussed bullying scenarios, and emphasized what students can do when they observe bullying behavior. We challenged our students that when they come across peer incidents:

  1. Not to join in

  2. Not to laugh

  3. To offer help

  4. To enlist the help of a trusted adult

Students often may use a combination of those actions and the context of the situation matters in determining what to do. While oftentimes it isn’t easy to step up to the plate, it is necessary for us to contribute to a healthy school culture.

While October is winding down, and we will have a new theme for November, we plan on reiterating these messages to our students through the entire school year. We appreciate our parents' help in talking with their child on how to navigate peer dynamics. It’s a team effort to help these middle schoolers!

Have a wonderful weekend,

We hope to see you soon!

We are excited to announce that Best Buddies has returned to the Middle School! Best Buddies is a club for students with and without disabilities to build friendships, gain leadership skills, and have some fun! Within the Best Buddies chapter, students are invited to participate in monthly group activities and can choose to be matched in friendship pairs. Our first Best Buddies event was a huge success! Students met their buddy matches for the school year and had a blast getting to know each other while painting pumpkins. The pumpkins were provided to us at a discounted rate from Cozy Nook Farms! If you are interested in participating in future events, please reach out to Mrs. Suvaka. There is an application form to complete before joining!

Upcoming Band Concert Information

Band Costume Concert Information (October 28th and 29th)

Band Families!

We are quickly approaching the first performances of the year. Since our “Costume Concert” is a little different from other performances, we want to share with you how everything will work and the important information your family needs. This will be an exciting concert, and we are thrilled of the progress the students have made so far this year!

Due to the large number of students in our Band program and our limited gym capacity, there are two nights of performances. Please note which night your child is performing:

October 28th: Students in 3rd and 6th hour Bands along with 6th grade Flutes, Saxophones, Percussion, and Baritones.

October 29th: Students in 4th and 7th hour Bands along with 6th grade Clarinets, Trumpets, and Trombones.

Both concerts will start at 7pm in the large gym at Kettle Moraine Middle School, and students need to arrive at 6:30pm (7th and 8th grade percussion students should arrive at 6:20pm).

Concert Attire: Students can wear our traditional concert black as shown here OR are welcome to dress in a costume of their choice. Keep in mind that this is a fun family event!

Costumes must be school appropriate including NO complete face coverings or masks, body paint, suggestive outfits, fake blood, gross/gruesome, or weapons of any kind (even play weapons are prohibited). Students wearing costumes MUST be able to sit and play their instruments (sorry, no inflatable costumes). We are also asking that students leave all accessories/props at home unless the item is meant to be attached to the outfit at all times (no witch brooms or shields please!).

If a student arrives in an inappropriate costume, they will be asked to change immediately or might not be able to perform. Please make sure your child’s costume choice is appropriate in advance to prevent any issues coming up, and feel free reach out to a Band teacher for any questions!

KMMS Family Advisory Committee

Do you want to have a better idea of the middle school vibe? Are you interested in having the inside scoop on KMMS? Do you want to spend some time each month with other middle school parents?

The purpose of this group is to provide input and feedback on a variety of issues around learning and life at KMMS.  We are entering "Year 4" and have many returning team members that mostly represent 7th and 8th grade. Our goal is to add a few more representatives from our current 6th grade families. The group will have people representing multiple grade levels, environments, and perspectives
