Hello KMMS Families,
Your student(s) took a survey earlier this fall to provide our staff more information about disruptions in our school and how we can work together to minimize distractions to learning. We understand that with over 700 middle schoolers, we will have various noises and a distraction from time to time. We want to limit distractions as much as possible though. KMMS is one of the top middle schools in Wisconsin in both achievement and growth, and we want to keep it that way!
Here is a link to this morning’s student announcement which provides survey data from our student population.
We appreciate support from our parents in talking with their student(s) about their own behavior or how they handle disruptions from other students. Nonjudgmental and open conversations can make a big difference. Here are some questions that may help guide those conversations:
How do you react when there are disruptions in your classroom, like students talking or making noise?
Can you tell me about a specific instance when there was a disruption in class? How did you handle it?
What strategies do you use to stay focused and continue learning when there are disruptions around you?
What ideas or solutions do you have for minimizing disruptions in your classroom or school environment?
How do you feel about your behavior in school? Are there times when you think you might be disruptive?
What are the consequences of disruptive behavior in your classroom or school? How do you think it affects your learning and that of others?
Do you think there are any particular reasons behind your disruptive behavior? Is there something bothering you that you'd like to talk about?
Have you ever discussed your concerns or challenges with your teacher? If not, would you be willing to talk to them about how you can improve your behavior in class?
Can you set some personal goals for yourself regarding your behavior in school? What are some steps you can take to achieve these goals?
We appreciate all of your support!
