Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

State report cards went public this week in the state of Wisconsin. We are proud to report that KMMS once again “Significantly Exceeded Expectations.” Here are a few highlights we would like to celebrate:

  • We rank in the top 4% of 6th-8th grade schools in terms of achievement.

  • We rank in the top 6% of 6th-8th grade schools in terms of growth.

  • We rank in the top 5% of 6th-8th grade schools in terms of outcomes for our learners with the highest needs.

  • For a second straight year, 100% of KMMS students who took the FORWARD exam grew in math!

We want to applaud the efforts of our students in the classroom and thank our parents for their support and for holding their students accountable to high academic standards. And of course, a very special thank you to the incredible teaching staff that we are so fortunate to have here at KMMS! Here is the KMMS staff directory in case you would like to write a note to current or former teachers of your children. Our teachers always appreciate words of gratitude.

Cheers to all of us in the KMMS community,

Matt Kitzerow
KMMS Principal

SUPPLY DRIVE FOR CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

KMMS Student Senate is sponsoring a supply drive for Children's Hospital, led by 8th grader Iris Fouts!  The purpose of this drive is to collect books, arts & crafts, and other activities for patients and family members of patients who are in isolation in the ICU at Children's. Here's what Iris had to say about it:
"I was inspired to start this supply drive because I have had the experience of being in the hospital over the holidays while my brother was receiving treatment in the ICU.  Being in isolation can be hard for siblings because we aren't allowed to do things that kids outside of isolation can do.  Because of this, I want to help make the holidays a little brighter for people in isolation."

Donated items must be NEW, less than 12" tall, and not homemade.  To make sure your item is acceptable, check out THIS list of requirements.

If you wish to donate an item, please place it in one of the labeled bins in the front hallway or the front office. The deadline to donate your items is Friday, December 8th.

From the KMMS Counseling Center

Greetings from the Student Services department!

During the month of September, all students were shown a brief video entitled "How to Make an Appointment with Your School Counselor."  Our counselors, psychologist, and social worker have an online form which students can access anytime to request an appointment, and they can also be reached via email.

Throughout the year, our student services team gets into classrooms to deliver lessons on topics such as bullying, substance abuse prevention, mental health, and future academic planning.  Our 6th graders started the year with lessons about bullying prevention, our 7th and 8th graders are currently receiving Mental Health lessons that teach them how to recognize warning signs of mental health concerns and how to get help, and they just finished up receiving lessons on the topic of Appropriate and Safe Technology Use.  This lesson includes material taken from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, as well as an examination of what our state laws and the Kettle Moraine Operating Rules and Regulations have to say about technology use among children.  The goal of this lesson is to promote appropriate digital interactions and how to respond if they encounter something inappropriate or problematic in their use of technology.

As always, if you are interested in viewing the material that is being discussed in the classrooms, please reach out to your child's counselor.

From the KMMS PTO

The KMMS PTO is looking for a few dedicated people to spearhead a fundraising committee, for the Middle School. Committee members would be involved in creating an annual, large-scale fundraiser that would fund initiatives aligned to the vision and mission of the KMMS PTO . This is a great opportunity to meet new people and help the KM community at the same time! Anyone interested can reach out to Amy Richards at amyracquelrichards@gmail.com
