Principal's Post

Hello KMMS Families,

The calendar for the holiday season combined with cold and flu season has affected our students’ attendance. School attendance is so important to the academic growth and maturation of our students. Strong attendance helps our students:

  • Grasp key concepts and skills they'll need for high school and beyond.
  • Learn responsibility for the expectations of future education and work.
  • Reduce stress: When students attend regularly, they're less likely to fall behind and feel overwhelmed trying to catch up.
  • Foster a sense of belonging: Regular attendance helps students feel connected to their school community.
  • Provide structure and routine: A consistent school schedule can be comforting and stabilizing for adolescents.
  • Ensure access to support: Being in school provides access to many community supports.

We understand things come up too! Please remember to provide a doctor’s note whenever your student misses school for medical, dental, orthodontic, or therapy appointments.
These notes are important because they:

Exempt absences from counting against your child’s attendance record (excused or unexcused)

Support the school’s attendance rate, which is used in state reporting and accountability

Help us keep accurate records and support your student’s success

You can send a copy of the note with your child to drop off in our office or email it to Tina Luna, Administrative Assistant (lunatina@kmsd.edu).

We want to thank our parents for their supportive role in getting students to school.

Art of Writing Conference at the Milwaukee Art Museum

A warm recognition of thanks to Terry and Janet Kaldhusdal for coordinating the 36 Annual Young Author's Art of Writing event held at the Milwaukee Art Museum and teachers who chaperoned the 70 participating KMMS students as well as an additional 47 school districts attending. Terry wrote that our Lasers, "Arrived with curiosity, courage, and joy, reminding everyone of the power of creativity in action.  The energy and support around the students created a space where every young author and artist could rise, shine, and be heard. In a world that often overlooks the arts, this gathering celebrated imagination, self-expression, and the courage to share one’s story."

Link for Participants: Please use this link to submit your work for the 36th edition of the online book: Art of Writing. The deadline is Monday, December 22, 11:59 PM.
