Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

Change can be incredibly hard. But with change, comes new opportunities. We want to hear from you, our parent partners, as we experience a change going into the 2024-25 school year. You received a letter earlier this week with information that the company who runs the Summit platform is eliminating it. The letter includes a survey seeking your feedback. We are taking feedback from families, students, and staff as we move from three learning environments to two learning environments.. Thank you to over 80 parents who have already taken the survey since Monday!

While all three of our current learning environments have a blend of teacher-led and student-directed learning time, Navigate students did experience more student-directed learning time with Power Focus Areas, a unique aspect of the Summit platform. Our goal is to develop a learning environment that combines the best of both worlds. Your feedback is invaluable as we proceed. We have an incredible teaching staff that has already begun planning what next year will look like for our students. We believe students need structure, and they also need to develop independent learning skills like time management, prioritization, and goal-setting.

Again, change can be incredibly hard. But think about this - 100% of Create, Discover, and Navigate students grew in math on their state test the past two school years. Our school and our teachers have the capacity to provide your child with a great educational experience, regardless of what platform they used to access our curriculum. Stay tuned in early 2024 for more information.

Have a great weekend,

Thank You: Healthy & Active Lifestyles Fundraiser

Students in Healthy & Active Lifestyle raised over $500 and were able to provide 2 prosthetic legs!

The recipients are Francisco Zepeda, age 62 and Mercedes del Carmen Santos Zelaya, age 64 both from Honduras.

The donation of $250 per leg will allow the recipient to stand and walk with dignity and HOPE and improve their quality of life. 70% of Hope To Walk’s patients are able to return to work again. They are also able to care for themselves and their families and be part of their communities again. It is a
good thing to give someone a meal but far better to give them the ability to obtain their own
meals. This empowering of others and letting them know of their innate value is at the core of
Hope To Walk.

Thanks to everyone who donated!

From the KMMS PTO

The KMMS PTO is looking for a few dedicated people to spearhead a fundraising committee, for the Middle School. Committee members would be involved in creating an annual, large-scale fundraiser that would fund initiatives aligned to the vision and mission of the KMMS PTO . This is a great opportunity to meet new people and help the KM community at the same time! Anyone interested can reach out to Amy Richards at amyracquelrichards@gmail.com
