Principal's Post

Hello KMMS Families,

Our December theme at KMMS is, “It’s a great day to be a Laser when we hold ourselves accountable.” Earlier this week, we had a student announcement on the value of accountability.

Accountability is defined at KMMS as taking responsibility for your actions, choices, and behavior. During the student announcement, we encouraged everyone to reflect on their actions during the first three months of school. Students considered what their "Highlight Reel" would show about their effort in schoolwork, their integrity, how they treat other people, their grit, and their personal accountability.

This focus reinforces the idea that it takes grit to admit mistakes.  Ultimately, we are striving for "Accountability: No excuses, just better choices".

We encourage you to discuss this topic at home, particularly as we move into the December Challenge of a five-step process designed to help students "Fix one thing" and "glow up" by taking steps toward greater personal responsibility.

1. Play your KMMS highlight reel in your mind

2. Identify something you need to hold yourself accountable to

3. Think about what action steps you need to take

4. Learn from mistakes along the way

5. Identify better choices

By working together, we can help our students internalize the importance of owning their choices and striving for better behavior.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Matt Kitzerow

KMMS Students Shine at UWM Honors Band Festival

Five talented student musicians from Kettle Moraine Middle School (KMMS) proudly represented their school on November 24th at the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Middle School Honors Band Festival.

This long-standing event is a selective festival that brings together some of the most motivated and accomplished middle school instrumentalists from across the region. The KMMS students who earned a spot in the selective festival were:

Sophia B (Flute)
Lyv B (Oboe)
Cody F(Clarinet)
Jacob B (Trumpet)
Charlie L (Percussion)

During the festival, the students participated in intensive rehearsals, received valuable instruction during master classes with UWM performance staff, and attended performances by UWM ensembles. They had the opportunity to work with regionally and nationally recognized wind band conductors, culminating in a finale concert. KMMS celebrates these students for their hard work and musical achievement!

National Children's Grief Awareness

KMMS recently celebrated National Children’s Grief Awareness Day with a week of activities to support students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Many students wrote the names of those they’ve lost and added them to our Memory Wall. Others chose to write letters and place them in our sealed Memory Box.

We also held our annual Light in the Darkness fundraiser to support families in our school community who are facing grief or significant hardships. Thanks to your generosity, we raised an incredible $1,006!

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and families.

Science Immersion Day at UW-Whitewater

Kettle Moraine Middle School proudly sent four outstanding students to the Science Immersion 2025 event held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus.  The experience gave our students a firsthand look at college-level academics and research.

The students engaged in hands-on, exploratory experiments across physics, biology, and chemistry.  In chemistry, the students successfully extracted DNA from a banana and created explosive elephant toothpaste.  Biology was an equally exploratory segment focused on studying microorganisms and wildlife.  The students were selected by our science teachers for their classroom participation, aptitude, and interest in science careers. A huge congrats to our representatives, selected for their aptitude and curiosity: Max V., Aubree S., Reece H., and Isobel W.
