Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

It is hard to believe that Term 3 ends and spring break begins four weeks from today! We’ve had an eventful school year and are proud of our students for many things. One thing that I would like to highlight is that 89.7% of our students have zero office referrals this school year! In addition, in a recent survey, 91.5% of students answered positively that “Most students at school follow the rules.” The structure and order of our school is very important to ensure we can deliver a strong education to each and every student.

In recent and upcoming “House Talks,” I’ve been taking a moment to reset our cell phone expectations with students. This is an area where we could see improvement, as our 8th graders in particular have become a bit relaxed about phones. In the house talk, we once again discussed keeping phones in lockers or utilizing classroom caddies. We also took time to explain the “why” with case studies that support not having phones in school. You can find more information we talked about with students in this slideshow. To summarize, limiting cell phone use in school:

  1. Encourages better focus by students

  2. Promotes higher academic performance

  3. Promotes emotional intelligence and social skills

  4. Reduces student anxiety

We appreciate any support you can offer in helping your student be responsible with their cell phone in school. It really makes a difference!

Have a wonderful weekend,

KMMS Principal

Healthy & Active Lifestyles - Hope to Walk

Healthy & Active Lifestyles raised $750 for Hope to Walk.

Here are the recipients of the THREE Prosthetic Legs we were able to donate:

Angel Cucul (age 40), Edi Xoc (age 28), Analy Rosales (age 39) of Guatemala

Three prosthetic legs were recently fitted to amputees in an underdeveloped country because of the support of the Kettle Moraine Middle School during Hope To Walk's 5K Fundraiser. The prosthetic legs were given to: Angel Cucul (age 40), Edi Xoc (age 28), Analy Rosales (age 39) of Guatemala

When a prosthesis is given to a person, we explain to him or her that the leg is a gift from the donating person or group. The KMMS HAL name has been indelibly placed on the foot of the leg.

The KMMS donation will allow the recipients to stand and walk with dignity and HOPE and improve their quality of life. Seventy percent of Hope To Walk’s patients are able to return to work again. They are also able to care for themselves and their families and be part of their communities again. It is a good thing to give someone a meal but far better to give them the ability to obtain their own meals. This empowering of others and letting them know of their innate value is at the core of Hope To Walk. Thank you to Mrs. Weske and Mrs. Pasternak for making this fundraiser possible.

Doctor notes

While we appreciate medical appointments to be scheduled outside of school hours, we understand that this isn't always possible.  Be sure to get a doctor's excuse at your student's appointment and have them bring the excuse to school.  Their absence will then be medically excused which will not affect their attendance record.
