Hello KMMS families,
Our February theme at KMMS is, “It’s a great day to be a Laser, when we treat each other well.” This is a repeat theme that will always hold important weight in our school community. To better understand our students' experiences, we conducted a survey in January that included the following question:
”If I were bullied, I would feel comfortable talking to someone about it.”
Spring 2024 positive response rate: 68.61%
January 2025 positive response rate: 81.47%
While we are happy to see an increase in positive responses, we are working to make sure the students who still respond that they are not comfortable, have avenues and connections to reach out if they need support.
Ms. Lloyd and I met with a Student Advisory team, a group of 8th graders, and discussed this question. What stood out from that conversation is that students don’t necessarily think of which trusted adult to talk to if they have peer issues. Students want friends to be there for support. It might be worthwhile to ask your child(ren) at home how they would handle a situation where a friend expresses concern. Here at KMMS, for students who witness or become aware of possible bullying issues, we’ve offered this guidance:
Not to join in
Not to laugh
To offer help
To enlist the help of a trusted adult
We have an awesome student population who respond well with guidance from trusted adults at home and at school. Thank you for being a trusted adult during these formative years!
Have a wonderful weekend,
