Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

In a few short months, your 6th grader will be a 7th grader, or your 7th grader will be an 8th grader, or your 8th grader will be in high school. We have had a successful school year, but it is not quite done yet. In the words of our students, we need them to stay “locked in” and do everything they can to prepare for their next step in fall. These last three weeks of school are not a time to “crash out.”

Back in April, 653 of our 721 students took the School Perception Survey. This 90.56% participation is a strong sample size. The voice of our students matters a great deal to us. Here are some growth areas in positive response rates that we that we are proud of us as school:

Most kids at school follow the rules.

From 57.64% in 2024 to 75.88% in 2025

If I were bullied, I would feel comfortable talking to someone about it.

From 63.92% in 2024 to 74.35% in 2025

Students treat me with respect.

From 73.56% in 2024 to 82.95% in 2025

If I have a big problem, there is an adult at school I can talk to about it.

From 75.48% in 2024 to 84.26% in 2025

I like helping other people when I can.

From 87.74% in 2024 to 94.14% in 2025

I can be myself at school.

From 76.01% in 2024 to 82.03% in 2025

While we are proud of this growth, we still have work to do and will strive for continual school improvement. Your child’s education and educational experience is extremely important to us. Thank you for continuing to partner with us.

Cheers to a strong finish,

Matt Kitzerow

KMSD Listening Sessions

Graphic for Listening sessions

COMMUNITY FISCAL PLANNING LISTENING SESSIONS!!! We will be conducting listening sessions for the board to hear from community members regarding Scenario IIA for addressing the long-term stability of the district. This is a great opportunity for our community to better understand how closing one elementary school, restructuring our 4K-(4 or 5) district boundaries, and making changes to middle school and high school operations, will impact families. This also provides a forum for our community to inform the decision making process and learn more about each of our elementary schools. For more information on the fiscal planning process, please visit kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning.
