Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

The voice of our student body matters a great deal to us. The School Perceptions survey is one way that we tap on our students to learn more about their experience at KMMS. Last school year we made a concerted effort to increase respectful treatment among students. Students are asked to respond to the statement, “Students treat me with respect.”

We saw a great increase in positive responses from the 2021-22 school year from 51% to last school year at 69.78%. We are very pleased that this upward trend continued, as our students reported positive responses at 76.64% this spring.

A big thank you to our students for their incredible efforts in fostering a more positive school culture, and to our parents for emphasizing the importance of respect at home. We are thrilled with the progress we've made, but there's still more to achieve in the coming school year. Respect is a timeless value that will be important in every grade level and every workplace. Thank you for your continued support.

Have a great weekend,

Matt Kitzerow

Electric Van

Mrs Olson's 8th grade Computer Science class just completed a circuits unit with a focus on careers -- electrical engineering and electricians. Mr Lirette from Pieper Power visited the class today. He talked about "life as an electrician", showed some wires he works with, talked about safety and then showed them the tools of the trade from his truck. What a treat and a wonderful way to end this unit of study!

PTO is hosting the annual Summer Kick Off Bash in 2 weeks. We are eager for an evening of fun and bringing together our middle school families as well as the upcoming 6th grade families! To make this as successful as our Spring Showcase we need volunteers to help. Please take a moment to view our Sign Up Genius. We are looking for just 30 minutes of your time during the event or during setup/teardown!

Message from Deputy Cattani

Dear KMMS Families,

As we maintain our commitment to the safety of our students, I would like to emphasize the importance of responsible driving within school zones. Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in instances where parents are exceeding the posted speed limit on Ottawa Avenue, as well as disregarding the presence of pedestrians and driving through the crosswalk area while there are students/staff present in the road.

In the interest of safeguarding our students and preventing any potential citations for traffic violations, I strongly urge all parents to drive with increased caution and awareness while navigating this area. I would also like to encourage parents to use the designated area on the south side of the building for drop-off/pick-up and to please keep crosswalks reserved for students who are walking in the area.

Thank you for keeping our students safe,

Deputy Cattani

Drop Off & Pick up Reminders & Requests

Students - Whether you are walking home, getting picked up or riding your bike, ALWAYS cross at the marked crosswalk. This is where adults are stationed to help you cross Ottawa Ave safely.  Please remember to also use the sidewalk after you have crossed the street.

Drivers - Please be patient as we close out the school year and battle the congestion and increased traffic due to the Bridge work on Hwy 18.  We are all looking forward to this project being completed...hopefully before the end of the school year!

Please remind your student to use the crosswalk and sidewalks. Please be alert and watch for pedestrians and stop for people in crosswalks.

Thanks for working together to make our community safer.
