Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

KM is a great school district. I think one of the things I appreciate the most is the remarkable level of parent engagement. Research continues to show that parent engagement has a positive impact on middle school student success. Your student is going to begin sending you weekly emails that narrate their successes and their challenges of their school week. We hope you are able to use these emails as a place to get started in supporting their education. Here are a few conversation starters you may find helpful to use at home:

  • Can you show me how you keep track of your assignments and activities?

  • Which teacher have you felt a connection with to begin this school year? Who do you feel comfortable asking for help when you need it?

  • How do you reach out to your teachers if you miss an assignment or if you need help understanding it?

These conversation starters, and more, can be found in the book 6th Grade Ready, a book designed to help parents navigate middle school. We are particularly fond of Chapter 5, written by Mr. Terry Kaldhusdal, KMMS teacher.

The 2023-24 school year is off to a great start. Thank you for your support in making that happen.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Matt Kitzerow

From the Student Services

As a Student Services team, one of our priorities is to support student well-being and mental health. To this end, we make an effort to work with families to make therapy services more accessible. This year we have started a new partnership with the GALS Institute to provide therapy sessions in-school. Additionally, we partner with other counseling agencies on a case by case basis to allow students to access virtual therapy appointments from school.

Any students wishing to participate in a virtual appointment from school must make arrangements in advance. Please contact a member of the KMMS Student Services team if you have questions!

Traffic Pattern for Drop off and Pick up

Traffic Flow for Drop off and Pick up

The traffic pattern map for Drop off and Pick up is pictured above. Please be courteous and mindful that many of our new families are not familiar with our process.

For the safety of our students, to make after school pick ups more efficient and to alleviate congestion on Ottawa Avenue, these expectations will continue to be implemented for the upcoming year.

  • Our pick up line will not open until 5 minutes after students have been dismissed from classes.

  • Per Summit PD, no queuing/waiting of cars on Ottawa Avenue (The lines of cars on Ottawa Avenue have been an inconvenience for our KMMS neighbors on Ottawa Avenue and Wolf Drive.)

  • The 15 MPH speed limit and STOP signs in the parking lot will be strictly enforced.
