Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

This week, students viewed a video message from our counselors, Mr. Korb and Mrs. Cowan. Last year we would have Friday announcements from administrators about school culture and treating one another well.  Recognizing the visual preferences of today's learners, we've incorporated multimedia elements like these videos to enhance engagement and information retention.

We continue to focus on our September theme, “Ready to Learn,” and Mr. Korb and Mrs. Cowan introduced another district value: partnerships. Our students' partnerships with their peers and their teachers will make a difference in their education, as well as the rest of our KMMS community.

Here is a recap of their video message:

  1. Build healthy partnerships by being respectful to others (peers and staff).

  2. Identify your trusted adult here at school.

  3. Establish good attendance habits early in the year!

Staying with the theme of partnerships, we also want to encourage strong partnerships between our parents and school staff. Here are some highlights that we take great pride in when it comes to partnering with our parents:

Spring 2024 School Perceptions Parent Survey Data:

  1. Overall, how would you rate communications from school?
    Positive Response Rate: 97.41%

  2. I feel welcome in my child's school.

    Positive Response Rate: 94.12%

  3. School staff treat my child with dignity and respect.
    Positive Response Rate: 95.91%

  4. I have at least one school staff member I feel comfortable contacting when I have
    an idea or concern.
    Positive Response Rate: 88.48%

  5. I am updated on how my child is doing at school.
    Positive Response Rate: 86.88%

We encourage parents to reach out directly to their student’s teachers to clarify questions and concerns, to reach out to counselors and administrators when concerned about the treatment of their student by peers, and to provide feedback as we seek continual school improvement. KMMS is a special school because of our strong partnerships. Thank you for all you do!

Have a great weekend,

Kettle Moraine Homecoming Spirit Week

Spirit Week Flier

Student Senate is sponsoring a Spirit Week dress up contest. This year there is a new twist to winning. Instead of the house with the highest percentage of participation all week, on Friday, 9/27, an Administrator will draw a random “day of the week” to decide which spirit day will be picked to determine the Spirit Week winner. Whichever house had the highest percentage of students participating on that day will win the Glorious HOCO trophy. Good luck!

KMMS Re-Take Days

Vintage Camera Pic

KMMS retake days are scheduled for Monday, November 4th (7-10:30am) and Thursday, November 7th (3:30-6:30pm). These are not school days. The retakes correspond with Parent/Teacher conferences this year.

Please feel free to use our KMMS Events calendar (found on the KMMS Website) for dates and times of concerts, conferences, and other special events for middle school parents and students.

New Families: Reporting an Absence for a KMMS Student

IC graphic

There are a number of ways to notify KMMS of a student absence, late arrival or early release.

  • Use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal

Instructions for the IC Parent Portal
    Enter the Parent Portal
    Go to “More”
    Go to “Absence Request”
Choose student name, reason for absence, date and time (if applicable). If you’d like to leave us more information, there is a comment section
    Click Submit

When your IC Portal request for early release is approved, an email goes to your student's school email account. That email can be used for a pass to the office. We also attempt to send paper passes to remind students of their early releases.

  • Call the KMMS Attendance line: 262-965-6500 ext.2050

  • Email an administrative assistant with the information.

Additionally, KMMS students may sign themselves into the building without a parent. If you drop your student at the front entrance after 7:20am, please watch to be sure that they enter the building and are helped. KMMS students may sign themselves out of the building without a parent present, as long as we are aware that the student has permission to leave before they arrive at the office for departure.
