Principal's Post

Hello KMMS families,

We want to thank our parents for a successful first month of school. You might be thinking, would you tell us if you thought it was an unsuccessful first month? I’m not going to answer that, and I'm glad I don't have to at this time! But here is some evidence to support the notion of a successful start of the year:

  1. Our year-to-date attendance rate is at 96.1%. This is higher than last year’s 94% rate and well above the state average of 90%.

  2. We had fewer office behavior referrals in September 2023 than we did in September 2022.

Students need to be in school as much as possible for the continuity of teaching and learning. And when students are here, their behavior and how they treat other people matter!

You may be aware that October is National Bullying Prevention Month. This morning’s student announcement was meant to give students information about bullying and hazing, so they can make informed decisions about how they treat one another. While school is an important place for students to learn, conversations at home prove to be even more impactful. We ask our parents to discuss two crucial items as we work to make KMMS a bully-free school environment:

  1. How are you treating other students?

  2. How would you report bullying behavior directed towards you or others?

All KMMS staff, Ms. Lloyd, and I are here to help. We appreciate your partnership in supporting your student’s experience here at KMMS.

Have a great weekend,

Matt Kitzerow

KMMS New Student Breakfast

On Wednesday, October 4th, new students to Kettle Moraine joined together for donuts, orange juice and a fun game of Kahoot. This allowed students a chance to connect and discuss successes and areas where they need assistance. We are fortunate to have so many new students become a part of the Kettle Moraine Middle School community.

Healthy & Active Lifestyles - Hope to Walk Virtual 5K

Did you know...

  • There are 35 million amputees and disabled people worldwide who need prosthetic devices but do not have access to them?

  • Traditional prosthetic legs cost between $10,000-$25,000 -- an unattainable price for someone making $3 per day

Ms. Pasternak and Mrs. Weske's Healthy & Active Lifestyles class are participating in a Virtual 5K to raise awareness for Hope to Walk. Hope to Walk is a non-profit organization that exists simply to help the impoverished people of the world to walk again. Millions of amputees worldwide depend on wheelchairs and crutches. Some are even forced to crawl simply because they cannot afford prosthetics. There is still time to donate or participate in the virtual 5K. Go to https://hopetowalk.networkforgood.com/projects/203726-kelly-weske-s-fundraiser for more details and to make a donation.

Last year, students raised enough money to purchase a leg for Santos, a 61-year old man from Honduras. Our goal this year is to raise enough money to purchase TWO (or more) prosthetic legs.

Safety First!

Pick Up Safety & Courtesy

Please use the pick up line at KMMS to retrieve your student(s) after school unless you have made special arrangements with our office. Neighbors on Ottawa Avenue and Wolf Drive are very concerned for your child(ren)'s safety in non-school sanctioned pick up areas.

Thank you!

Locker Decorations

We often have requests from students and parents about decorating lockers for birthdays. We are happy to accommodate these requests with the following guidelines:

  • Decorations should not interfere with the functioning of the locker or nearby lockers

  • No food, gum or candy items as decorations

  • No balloons (We have students/staff with severe latex allergies.)

  • Please help the birthday person clean up the decorations after a week or two.

Blessings in a Backpack

Kettle Moraine Middle School is a proud partner of a non-profit organization called Blessings in a Backpack. Through this partnership, your child is eligible to be a recipient of the Blessings in a Backpack program. This program is currently in all of the Kettle Moraine Elementary schools.

The program is designed to provide non-perishable food every Friday to children that
would benefit from supplemental nourishment over the weekend. The program runs the
full school year and there is no cost to participate. If you choose to participate, your child
will receive a bag of non-perishable food every Friday which will be distributed in a discreet and caring manner. This will begin Friday October 6th.

If you want your child(ren) to participate, please complete this form.
