Pioneers have shown great interest in the school garden. They harvested crops in early fall and made “scissor salsa,” pesto, beet chips, vegetable soup, and marinara. They extended their learning by visiting the West Allis farmer’s market and learning more about fruits and vegetables. This led to the desire to create a “Garden to Table” meal to share with their families. They decided on pasta with pesto, marinara, bread sticks, salad, and desserts. They researched fall lettuce, experimenting with several growing environments. They researched and wrote informational pieces to showcase at the dinner. With the help and guidance of Jim Rydzik from Pizza Guy, they made homemade breadsticks. They also created invitations, wrote and produced commercials, and used math to determine costs. They perfected their presentation and customer service skills by greeting and presenting the menu, serving and cleaning up. It was a great night!
