NEW TRAILBLAZERS!
We inducted four new members into the Trailblazers Hall of Fame on Friday! Rebecca (Millman) Schug, Jane Millman, Liz Millman, and Cori (Schober) Marsh held a very uplifting and insightful discussion with KMSD students, moderated by Violet Kleeflisch and Ben Christiaansen. After the presentation, the new Trailblazers were presented with a plaque and stayed for a lovely brunch, organized by our own Jackie Behling and Jenny Godin. Congratulations to all of these wonderful ladies!

Support Our Courts!
The Kettle Moraine Tennis Association has partnered with KMSD and Three Pillars to build our new tennis complex and pavilion. This state-of-the-art facility replaces courts with cracking surfaces that were no longer safe for play. The new facilities offer 10 tennis courts and 18 pickle ball courts. This wonderful complex will serve our district and community for many years to come!
KMTA is also providing a pavilion which will be funded through private donations. We need your help us as we continue to make KM a premier institution in all areas. Donate now!
Pickleball Tournament and Learn to Play Pickleball Fundraiser – October 15, 2023 | 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Staggered start times depending on the level with approximately two to three hours of playing time per level. Location: Kettle Moraine High School 349 N. Oak Crest Drive, Wales, WI. Registration Fee: $40 per person. Format: Doubles Round Robin - pick your partner in advance and play with your partner each game. We will also be offering Three sessions of Learn to Play Pickleball: 10:30, 12:30, and 2:30 For individuals who want to learn how to play or have little experience playing. The KM Music Parents Board would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all who made this year's Homecoming Chili/Mac and Cheese Dinner a huge success. We served nearly 400 meals and enjoyed the wonderful sense of KM pride and community spirit that buzzed through the cafeteria. FUTURE ENGINEERS NEED MENTORS!
The KM FRC Laser Robotics program needs mentors with mechanical or electrical engineering expertise to work with our high school students. This team is part of the FIRST Robotics Competition, an international high school robotics competition. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators while fostering confidence, communication, and leadership. CUSTODIAN APPRECIATION DAY!
Cushing Elementary students celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day by creating a special song for Mr. Kirby and sharing projects honoring his hard work and dedication!
WALES & EXPLORE ANNUAL COLOR RUN TONIGHT!
The color run is planned for 5:00 pm. This Fun and Colorful event is a great community-building effort with local sponsors, school families and staff. The money raised will support various PTO events and put the finishing touches on the BRAND NEW ADDITION TO OUR PLAYGROUND.
The Color Run/Walk is an almost 2 mile course around the elementary and high school with multiple color stations. Participants are encouraged to wear a white t-shirt and fun, colorful accessories. The cost to join the run is $30 for one, $55 for two, $75 for three, and $90 for four plus. Runners receive sunglasses, a bandana, and a color packet to throw at the big color blast party. MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Middle School Orchestra "Dousman Song" World Premiere!
KM middle school orchestra members performed at Dousman Elementary's October Character Assembly this morning. The musicians, taught and conducted by Ms. Weber, performed a WORLD PREMIERE of "The Dousman School Song" for string orchestra. The song was originally composed by retired KM Music Teacher Vicki Marshall, who taught Ms. Weber in the early 90's. Ms. Weber arranged the piece for string orchestra and taught it to her students, who were then joined in song by the entire Dousman student body! As a Dousman Alumni, she reiterates the impact that music had on her self-concept and enjoyment of school as a young student. We are so grateful to all of our current and past District music staff and the robust elementary music programming! The Dousman Bullfrogs loved the performance, and were very respectful audience members!
Mrs. Wroblewski's STEM/Science Lab participated in some interesting field work this week.

GIRLS TENNIS AT SECTIONALS
The team ended up getting 2nd place but were neck and neck with Whitefish Bay for the Sectional Title. What a great way to wrap up the season for all of our seniors.A HUGE congrats to our 1 Singles, Anna Sueflohn, and 1 Doubles, Alison Abhold and Ella Wagner, as they all qualified for the individual state tournament October 12-14 in Madison!

In golf, it's the individual's skill, but the team's support that paves the way for victory! CONGRATULATIONS Annekke! Last week KM Girls Varsity Golf made it through to sectionals due to the play of the whole team. Our #1 player played the best round of golf in her competitive career and qualified for the state tournament. Please congratulate Annekke B. for her success and that of her teammates who paved the way for this opportunity.
KM GLOBAL TRIVIA EVENT
KM Global learners and staff hosted their first KM Global Community Gathering on Wednesday evening with food, conversation, and a trivia competition. We had fantastic participation and it was particularly nice to meet so many of our new families.

American Sign Language: Introduces American Sign Language (ASL) to students with no previous experience with ASL. Emphasizes the expressive and receptive conversational skills of ASL used by the Deaf community. Students will learn strategies on how to introduce themselves, colors, and numbers 0 - 15. Includes introduction to American Deaf culture. All ages welcome, students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent throughout the entire class time. Classes are on Mondays in October, sign up online.
After School Chess Club: Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts.. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. This program is offered by Chess Scholars. Sign up!

LYBA Basketball: Registration is open for the 23-24 Youth Recreational basketball season. All students in grades 1-8 are welcome. Season begins in December and concludes in February. Grades 3-8 will practice one night per week with Saturday morning games and will be followed by a season ending tournament. Grades 1-2 will meet on Saturday mornings for 90 minutes with practice and game play. Our emphasis will be on knowledge and execution of basketball skills, rules, sportsmanship, fair play and attitude. Eight foot baskets will be used. Sign up today!
Kettle Moraine Wrestling Club: Students in grades K-8 are invited to join. Open Mat Nights: Open Mat Nights begin on September 6th in the High School wrestling room every Wednesday from 6-7:30. All registered wrestlers are welcome to attend. We'll have a structured session available, but wrestlers are welcome to use the room for drilling, live wrestling or games as well. We encourage wrestlers to "bring a partner", but we will pair up wrestlers appropriately as needed. Regular Season: The regular season for Middle School will begin on November 13th and the Youth season will begin on December 5th. The conclusion of the regular winter season will be on February 28th when we host our annual Youth Night. Post season will continue through the Wisconsin Youth State wrestling tournament at the end of March. Middle School Practice: Practices for the Middle School wrestlers will take place Monday through Thursday at the Middle School, directly after the school day ends. Youth Practice: Practices for K-5th grade are on Mondays and Wednesdays in the High School wrestling room. K-2nd practices from 5:15 to 6:00. 3rd-5th practices from 6:00 to 7:30. Learn Spanish through KM Community Ed! Cushing only After School Spanish: The road to Spanish language learning begins with this all new and exciting 16-week Spanish adventure!
