Breakfast with Santa Recap

Breakfast with Santa is an annual KMHS tradition. In addition to visits with Santa and his elves, community members enjoyed wonderful live music from all of our KM schools. Most indulged in the hearty breakfast of topped pancakes eggs, sausage, hash  browns, etc.  that was served in the cafeteria. Guest also enjoyed the live holiday music that was provided by all of our KM schools!  It seemed our entire KM Community shopped the free craft fair where about 50 vendors shared unique, quality, homemade gifts and decorations for the holiday season! The district also gave away Little Lasers t-shirts, created by KMmade, our own graphic design department.  We provided a craft area where kids could color them in and enjoy a homemade cookie from Ms. O'Gorman's culinary students. The response was amazing and we went through about 165 shirts during the event and met many wonderful families! Thank you again to everyone who attended and made this event such a huge success. See more photos on our website!

RMH

Magee's 4th and 5th grade Student Council has decided to "adopt" The Ronald McDonald House as their annual December charity! This means that, each December, we will collect items for the entire month to be donated to their Milwaukee location. Attached is their Wish List for Amazon. We are also asking that families start saving their aluminum can pop tops all year long to be donated to The Ronald McDonald House in December.

Explore Navigators Partner with Tech Ed

Navigators had a storage problem... the lockers did not provide adequate space or ventilation for wet snow gear. What does Explore do when there is a problem? They start brainstorming solutions! They came up with many ideas, evaluated them, and landed on metal hooks over the lockers to hang gear!

Then, they went over to the metals shop at the high school to see the prototype and learn all about the process of creating their product. The shop is run by one of our students parents which made it extra special.

Mr. Zuck said it was fun to see how excited they got learning about metals and learning a new word… “prototype!”

KMMS HAS COOL PARENTS

Ms. Ford's 8th grade science class has been studying genetics. Yesterday and today, Mrs. Parsons, a geneticist and KMMS parent, came in to discuss hereditary illnesses and traits. She also conducted an experiment with the kids where they learned the process for extracting DNA. The kids really enjoyed gaining a better understanding of how DNA is processed in a practical lab setting and how that information is utilized. They had very insightful questions and you could tell the unit helped to connect their learning to real-world applications. Thank you Mrs. Parsons for sharing your experience with them!

SHARED LEARNING AMONG KMSD SCHOOLS!!!

Some of our most rewarding experiences at KM come from schools working together in mutually beneficial ways that enhance their shared learning. This is a great example! Mr. Bruening's shop students built shut box games for young learners at Cushing. They practiced their skills in measuring, cutting, planing, sanding, die cutting, and assembling the final products. Cushing students will get the benefit of using the boxes to improve their math fluency through game play. "The kids making the shutboxes deserve all of the credit! (They) did a beautiful job on them! They are much better quality than the original prototype I sent," wrote Ms. Mokros.
