CELL PHONES AND OTHER COMMUNICATION DEVICES IN SCHOOL

We have been having issues this year with students using smart devices during the school day to call and/or text. As a reminder, personal electronic devices are not allowed during the school day.

Please see the following excerpt from our parent handbook, which was signed off on by all parents before the school year began.

CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Cell phones or personal electronic devices (e.g, iPods, smart watches, gaming devices, phones, or androids) are not allowed during the school day from 8:30 AM through 3:35 PM. If a student has a cell phone or smart device in school, they should store the inactive or muted device out-of-sight during the aforementioned times. A principal may request a parent conference if there are repeated instances of device use during the school year. If there are repeated uses of these devices over the school year, a principal may increase disciplinary repercussions, including suspension for insubordination. In case of an emergency during the school day, parents should call the main office to contact the student.

Thank you for your help and partnership with this important issue.

BUS SAFETY

With October upon us we here at Dousman Transport Company will dedicate a week to go over bus Evacuations with all the students that ride our busses. This will help prepare all students in the event of an emergency.

With Safety as our number one priority, we wanted to send out a few important safety reminders.

  • While waiting at the bus stop, when the bus is

approaching everyone should get in a line and wait at

least 12 ft back from where the bus door will open.

  • When departing the bus, you should immediately walk

away from the bus. If you must cross wait for the driver

to cross you and continue away from the bus once, you

    have crossed.

  • If you need to walk down the road or get your mail,

please wait until the bus pulls away. Never walk down

the side of the bus. There are many blind spots on a

bus, and we need to make sure we can see each student

that has departed the bus before we pull away.

These few safety tips will help our drivers to ensure each, and every student gets to and from school safely.

FAMILY DIRECTORIES

In accordance with our student handbook, families MUST OPT IN to school directories. If you would like your student's info to be available to other students for play dates, birthday invitations, etc, you must fill out the form below. Please fill out one form per child.

If you would like access to the collected information, you must email your classroom teacher or Mrs. Schultz at schultzr@kmsd.edu and ask for the directory, as it cannot be published on any public sites. The spreadsheet you will receive is a live document and will be updated as parents fill out the form.

Once again, you MUST fill out this form for Wales or this form for Explore in order to be included in the directory.

After it is completed, email Mrs. Schultz or your classroom teacher to ask for a copy of the directory.

Thank you for your understanding in helping to keep our families' information as secure as possible.

COUNSELING CORNER

World Mental Health Day-October 10

World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10th all across the globe with the aim to promote, educate, and raise awareness of mental health issues. The focus of this day is also to get people talking about their mental health and eradicate stigmas associated with mental illness.

What to do on World Mental Health Day

Take some time for yourself and keep an eye on your well-being. Make sure you're getting enough time to relax and rejuvenate to keep a healthy mind and avoid any unnecessary stresses in your day-to-day life. If you feel like things are getting on top of you or are finding it difficult to keep organized, consider using a daily planner or wellness journal to make sure you're looking after yourself.

For additional information or resources related to mental health, please contact our KM school district mental health navigator.
