PICK UP PRECAUTIONS

Pick up and drop offs can be a stressful time for families and staff alike as we try to get all kids where they are needing to go in a safe and timely manner. Recently, we have been noticing that a few reminders are needed for pickup in the front -

  1. Front door pickup by grown-ups should be reserved for walkers and people needing to occasionally pickup quickly to get to an appointment, after school activity, etc.

  2. Parking and pulling out of the parking spots in front of the school while busses are present is strictly prohibited. This is a safety issue for both students and drivers.

    1. If you need to park, please park over the the high school lot (as noted below by the green check marks), then walk over to our building to pick up your child.

    2. If you forget and accidentally park in the "red zone" please wait to pull out until all busses have exited our parking lot.

  3. Please be kind. Our staff is working hard to ensure the safety of our kids, busses, and drivers. Please remember - we are all on the same team.

EXPLORE AND WALES FIELD TRIP AND SCHOOL VOLUNTEER PROCESS

We are full swing for field trip and special activity season!! We love having parents and other important adults in our students' lives come to help out. However, as always, safety of our students is top priority. This means that every adult that goes on a field trip OR volunteers in the building must complete a full background check as outlined by our district.

In the past, this has been done through a paper method. Starting last year, we switched over to an online form that takes less than 2 minutes to complete. This form then gets sent to the company we work with for background checks. The process of the form being run and being sent back to us can take a couple minutes, or a couple of weeks. Therefore, we are asking that this online form be completed at least 2 weeks before the day of the field trip or classroom event. You will receive this online form from your classroom teacher if you have agreed to volunteer for a specific event.

Please note: Anyone whose background check has not been completed and returned to us by the date of the field trip or event will NOT be allowed to participate in the activity.

Thank you for your help in keeping our kids safe.

WALES AND EXPLORE COUNSELING CORNER

Is it bullying?

This week, our students are learning the importance of reporting and refusing to help stop bullying.

We teach kids to report bullying to a caring adult at home or at school. Reporting bullying is not tattling. We take all bullying reports seriously and do a thorough investigation to determine the next best steps for the situation.

Refusing means to stand up against bullying and say words in a strong, respectful voice that mean stop. Watch for your student's activity from this week and ask them to practice telling you what they would say if they saw bullying happening at our school.

National Stress Awareness Day

Tomorrow, November 6th is National Stress Awareness Day! Please see this note from Scott Bakkum, our District Mental Health Navigator.

WALES AND EXPLORE FAMILY DIRECTORIES

In accordance with our student handbook, families MUST OPT IN to school directories. If you would like your student's info to be available to other students for play dates, birthday invitations, etc, you must fill out the form below. Please fill out one form per child.

If you would like access to the collected information, you must email your classroom teacher or Mrs. Schultz at schultzr@kmsd.edu and ask for the directory, as it cannot be published on any public sites. The spreadsheet you will receive is a live document and will be updated as parents fill out the form.

Once again, you MUST fill out this form for Wales or this form for Explore in order to be included in the directory.

After it is completed, email Mrs. Schultz or your classroom teacher to ask for a copy of the directory.

Thank you for your understanding in helping to keep our families' information as secure as possible.
