HOMECOMING MOVED!

Circumstances require that we push all homecoming activities out two weeks (10/7-10/12). We are rescheduling ALL Homecoming Week activities to October 7-12 with the parade and football game on the 11th and dance on the 12th.  The high school has been closed for the week due to extensive flooding. This has severely impacted planning, staffing, and facilities for these activities. Principal Bestor will be sharing additional homecoming details with high school parents and students later today.

We have determined the location of the collapsed pipe and the damage will be repaired this afternoon. Restoration and environmental cleaning services remain on site remediating water damage.

We realize the impact that this unforeseen emergency has had on our KM Community. Thank you for your patience as we work to make our school safe and fully functional for our students and community.

Spirit Week

Please Note - We WILL be continuing our spirit week for the remainder of this week

ALSO we will have an additional spirit week during the rescheduled homecoming week.

More information on the homecoming parade will be available when the date gets closer.

WHAT TO DO WHEN STUDENTS ARE ABSENT...

....for sickness
If a student is experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, or a fever of 100.4, we ask that they stay home until these symptoms have been gone for 24 hours without medicine. If this is the case, you can enter your child's absence on Infinite Campus, call our school at 262-968-6400 and leave a message to let us know, or email your child's teacher and cc Mrs. Schultz.

....for a scheduled absence and will be coming to school late
If a student will miss school in the morning for a scheduled doctor's appointment the best thing to do is to email your child's teacher and cc Mrs. Schultz. Submitting partial day absences on Infinite Campus isn't preferred at the elementary level.

Upon returning, adults need to park, walk their child into the building, and sign their child in at the office.

....for a scheduled absence and need to be picked up early from school
If a student needs to be picked up from school early the best thing to do is to email your child's teacher and cc Mrs. Schultz. Submitting partial day absences on Infinite Campus isn't preferred at the elementary level.

When the adult arrives to pick up the student, the adult must park and come into the office to sign the student out. Our practice is to not have students waiting for adults in the office. Therefore, when considering a pickup time, adults should account for time it will take to call the student down to the office when you arrive.

Thank you for your help!

RECESS RULES RUNDOWN

In an effort to keep families in the loop, we will be highlighting a few rules each week that we enforce on the playground and around the building. We ask that you please review these rules with your kids and help reiterate them at home.

Universal Play Area (New equipment!):

  • Go down on your bottom one at a time on the slide

  • Take turns and wait until the bottom of the slide is clear

  • No jumping from equipment

  • Go up the steps or ladders and go down the slide feet first

FAMILY DIRECTORIES

In accordance with our student handbook, families MUST OPT IN to school directories. If you would like your student's info to be available to other students for play dates, birthday invitations, etc, you must fill out the form below. Please fill out one form per child.

If you would like access to the collected information, you must email your classroom teacher or Mrs. Schultz at schultzr@kmsd.edu and ask for the directory, as it cannot be published on any public sites. The spreadsheet you will receive is a live document and will be updated as parents fill out the form.

Once again, you MUST fill out this form for Wales or this form for Explore in order to be included in the directory.

After it is completed, email Mrs. Schultz or your classroom teacher to ask for a copy of the directory.

Thank you for your understanding in helping to keep our families' information as secure as possible.

MINDFULLNESS STRATEGY OF THE WEEK from Mrs. Mathson

Over the past two weeks all of the students at Wales and Explore have met our school counselor, Mrs. Mathson during their classroom counseling lessons. Mrs. Mathson works alongside our teachers and parents to help students develop socially and emotionally through teaching classroom lessons, small group counseling, short-term individual counseling, and community resource referrals. Next, we will start lessons on skills to become super students!
